For more information, visit amwater.com and join American Water on LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. _ Primary Role_ This position is responsible for implementing continuous improvement of the environmental programs for the company including water quality, wastewater, environmental stewardship, and compliance with environmental rules and regulations. Will work closely with the American Water Environmental Leadership team and American Water functional group partners to support new and existing programs. Provides recommendations on environmental activities and technical assistance to operations. Supports the development of functional strategies and provides environmental leadership. #LI-JS1-On-site _ Key Accountabilities_ * Implements projects aligned to the American Water environmental strategy in accordance with established policies and procedures. Participates in continuous improvement initiatives designed to achieve environmental and water quality compliance, leverage technology, drive efficiencies, protect our customers and the environment. Supports American Water’s brand and role as an environmental and water quality leader by implementing new and existing technology, tools, and training. * Provides technical assistance and partners with American Water’s Environmental/WQ Leads and Operations. Administers environmental and water quality projects and technology with input from operational teams. Supports the development, implementation, and adoption of environmental programs, including change management and communication strategies. Monitors adoption through appropriate tools to ensure consistency throughout the business for water quality and environmental compliance. * Facilitates collaborative, cross-functional groups across the business to ensure project delivery programs meet operational needs. Assist in ensuring business partner satisfaction in accordance with the scope of work agreed upon for each project. Execute appropriate governance programs, change management, and communication strategies. * Leads by example and fosters a culture of safety and inclusion in all aspects of environmental compliance and stewardship. _ Knowledge/Skills_ * Broad knowledge of environmental, water quality, operations, and project management practices related to effective water and wastewater operations and compliance. * Knowledge of science, theory, and application of water and wastewater treatment and operations, water quality monitoring, and quality assurance programs. * Knowledge of applicable federal and state regulations affecting the business. Knowledge of company procedures, policies, and operations. * Knowledge of employee relations, change management, applicable safety and environmental regulations, federal and state water quality and environmental regulations and technical standards. * Awareness of regulatory developments, new technology and current trends in water quality and emerging environmental issues. Familiar with industry trade organizations and related activities. * Innovative: The ideal candidate will be forward thinking, unsatisfied with the status quo, have ideas on how to make our program better. * Problem solver: The ideal candidate will have an internal drive to complete projects and see a problem be solved and then used by the intended users. * Strategic: The ideal candidate will have a vision that aligns work to integrate with other products and leverage the tools/programs already created. * Strong project planning and management skills (e.g., planning, organizing, directing, monitoring and reporting of project activities). * Good verbal and written communication skills (e.g., presentation, listening, report writing). * Strong interpersonal skills (tact/diplomacy, persuasion, cooperation and ability to motivate others). Ability to interact with colleagues, governmental agencies, consultants and the general public with effective skill. * Computer literacy.
