About this role

As a Journeyman with Carrier, you will uniquely impact our customers, becoming the face of the confidence we stand by while ensuring their comfort. Your knowledge of Commercial HVAC will be critical in working on a variety of installations, repairs, and maintenance projects. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Inspect air-conditioning units to ensure efficient operation

  • Perform regularly scheduled maintenance on heating and cooling units

  • Diagnose mechanical and electrical malfunctions

  • Install, replace, or repair damaged equipment; calibrate thermostatic controls

  • Install new heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems; repair and replace damaged or worn heating, ventilation and air-conditioning parts and equipment; repair or replace low- and high-pressure liquid lines

  • Inspect and observe pressure of liquids and vapor with instrumentation to ensure efficient operation of unit and make necessary adjustment; inspect and service refrigeration equipment including refrigerators, ice machines, gas packs, and heat pumps

  • Maintain the chilled and hot water supply systems

  • Adjust and maintain internal electrical and electronic control systems; cleans coils, blowers, checks motors, and belt tensions

  • Assemble and install metal ductwork

  • Assist in planning and designing of new installations of heating and air-conditioning systems

  • Maintain maintenance records as required by City, State, and EPA regulations

  • Performs additional duties and responsibilities as required

  • Recognize and identify potential risks and hazards associated with performing all work-related duties safely

  • Work to mitigate potential risks associated with essential duties

  • Collaborate with management personnel to maintain safe working environments

  • Participate in a comprehensive OSHA-approved safety course (preferably OSHA 10- or 30-hour course) and adhere to company and regulatory compliance programs. (Can accept existing OSHA 10 card if completed.)

  • Obtain or carry low voltage electrical card

  • Obtain or carry EPA refrigerant license

  • Wear appropriate company issued uniform

  • Obtain or carry any needed mechanical licenses for city or state work performed

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • A minimum of 5 years practical working experience in the HVAC Industry

  • Must be able to lift 50lbs or more

  • Must be able to stand, crawl, sit, squat for extended periods of times

  • Possess and maintain valid and current Driver’s License and be insurable by the company’s insurance carrier

  • Has to be part of or willing to join the Union

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with chillers and large building HVAC conditioning equipment.

  • Principles and practices of Heating, Venting, Air Conditioning (HVAC) maintenance and repair; hazard and safety practices common to the trade

  • HVAC controls and safety devices; appropriate Safety Data Sheets (SDSs) / chemical usages; tools of the trade; materials and refrigerant recovery equipment and procedures used in installing, repairing and maintaining HVAC systems

  • Computerized electrical circuits and systems as they relate to air-conditioning, heating, ventilating, and refrigerated cooling

  • Sheet metal, electrical, plumbing

  • Basic understanding of building automation controls
