About this Role

The Civil/Structural Department Manager for NorthStar Energy Services will manager our core employees. They have worked together for many years, executing and managing projects around the country. Our team of professionals, from junior engineers and designers to senior technical experts, has experience in petroleum and chemical process technologies, program management, industrial engineering, pipeline engineering, industrial engineering procurement and construction, commissioning, and start-up. The Baton Rouge, LA location performs engineering for EPC projects awarded to our Houston construction group as well as engineering design projects for oil and gas clients. What You'll Do

The Civil/Structural Department Manager at NorthStar Energy Services will be responsible for the following:

  • Lead our group of engineers and designers to successfully execute EPC projects from bidding to the end of construction.

  • Make design recommendations and decisions for the team based on safety, quality, cost and constructability.

  • Routinely work with other discipline engineering leads to coordinate all engineering and design work.

  • Prioritize the civil team’s engineering activities on multiple projects to maximize productivity, meet the needs of other disciplines and meet client deadlines.

  • Give guidance to staff engineers in interpreting geotechnical reports and performing engineering calculations.

  • Make recommendations to management on engineering software needs.

  • Track hourly project cost reports provided by company accounting department.

  • Ensure all work being performed is within the project scope and that scope deviations are documented in change requests to the project management department.

  • Have direct, hands on, involvement while working with staff to produce engineering cost estimates and bill of material quantity calculations for EPC bid proposals.

  • Perform engineering calculations, sketches and designs if needed to meet departmental productivity requirements or to fill gaps in staff capabilities.

What You'll Bring

  • Preferably a minimum of 15 years of experience in civil/structural engineering with significant industrial sector and team management experience.

  • Experience designing site grading and drainage plans.

  • Extensive experience producing complete and accurate civil/structural construction plan sets.

  • Extensive experience designing large equipment foundations, above and below ground tank foundations, process facility structural steel design, etc.

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with a group engineers and designers to reach a consensus on complex engineering and design decisions.

  • An ability to lead by example as well as being able to make overruling decisions necessary to produce designs that follow good engineering practice and meet all codes and specifications.

  • Experience planning for future workloads and the ability to recruit additional engineers, designers and drafters when necessary.

  • Current Professional Engineer’s license in Louisiana and/or Texas.
