Project leadership is central to this role, drawing on resources and expertise within the team to deliver projects. The role will enable you to expand and grow your existing ecological expertise and expand this by drawing on the network of industry leads within the wider team. The role will provide you with the opportunity to develop a multidisciplinary approach to project delivery interfacing with other related disciplines (e.g. water management, landscape, historic environment) as we develop the right coordinated solution for our clients and the environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Providing clients with accurate, innovative and proportionate biodiversity technical and consenting advice in relation to a range of exciting projects

  • Contribute to biodiversity inputs across all project lifecycles from bidding/ feasibility/optioneering, extensive field survey programming, detailed design and assessment

  • Acting as technical lead for the production of ecological assessments from project inception through to project completion, including authoring/technically reviewing Preliminary Ecological Appraisals, protected species reports, biodiversity management and mitigation plans, scoping reports, biodiversity chapters of Environmental Statements and HRA, with the associated quality, schedule and budget management responsibilities

  • Mentoring, coaching and supporting junior staff. We are passionate about continual professional development and look to our senior staff to provide on the job coaching, mentoring and support to ensure our team members grow and develop to achieve their aspirations and meet our client needs

  • Networking across the wider UK consultancy business, developing relationships with other technical disciplines in the pursuit of enhancing our offer to the market and in striving to continually innovate approaches, techniques, and solutions for our clients

  • Project Management will be core part of the role in which you will have the opportunity to lead some of our more complex projects, managing supply chain inputs, sub-contracts and overseeing extensive field survey campaigns. We pride ourselves on the enduring trusted relationships we have with our clients and you will have the opportunity to carry these relationships forwards and build new relationships of your own.

Interest in taking your career to the next level within the UK’s leading environmental consultancy, working with some of the leading experts in the industry, and if you are interested in developing the broadening your existing skills and experiences by working on some of the most interesting and complex infrastructure and renewable energy projects in the UK and overseas.

Required Skills / Qualifications:

  • A willingness, appetite and enthusiasm for new challenges

  • An appetite for driving continual technical development and innovation within our biodiversity team

  • Experience of operating in a consultancy business at a senior level leading the biodiversity elements of major projects and delivery of high quality deliverables.

  • Demonstrable experience of managing/supervising ecologists in the field who are supporting construction related activities.

  • Ideally with experience from within the energy, renewables or transmission and distribution sectors (but not essential)

  • Demonstrable experience of leading the production of complex Biodiversity inputs to EIAs, ideally including within the DCO context.

  • International ESIA experience would be desirable but not essential.

  • Demonstrable experience of managing complex projects, including commercial, resourcing and scheduling activities along with managing sub-contracts and sub-contractors

  • Experience in stakeholder engagement and client/contractor liaison

  • Team leadership and/or mentoring experience

  • Business development and client relationship management experience and an interest in developing these skills further

  • Experience of Habitat Classification assessments and Biodiversity Net Gain

  • An ecological specialism is desirable, but broad spectrum biodiversity generalists are equally welcome.

  • An undergraduate ecology (or related) degree, with a secondary MSc or PhD in a related discipline being of interest

  • Full membership of CIEEM

  • International ESIA experience would be advantageous but not essential
