Common duties include:

  • Scoping Analysis - Involves evaluating initial design concepts, collaborating with stakeholders to meet regulatory requirements and standards, and providing cost estimates. Additionally, it entails identifying potential risks and challenges associated with different scoping approaches, such as environmental impacts, permitting requirements, and technical constraints.
  • Bridge Design - Design and analyze various structural elements of bridges, including superstructures, substructures, foundations, and retaining walls, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
  • CADD Software - Bridge design engineers utilize CADD software extensively throughout the design and construction phases. CADD software allows engineers to create detailed digital models of bridge structures, roadway approaches, and channel work. Engineers can use these digital models to visualize designs in 3D, make precise measurements, and analyze various design options.
  • Collaboration - Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including architects, civil engineers, environmental engineers, and transportation planners, to integrate bridge designs with overall infrastructure projects
  • Documents - Prepare technical reports, drawings, specifications, and other documentation related to bridge design, analysis, and construction activities.

This position will be located in Barre City Place in Barre, VT with an opportunity to telework.

Class Definition

Engineering work at a basic level for the Agency of Transportation. Duties involve design, technical support, and construction oversight of simple engineering projects under close supervision. Duties include the collection, analysis, and review of engineering data to be used in the preparation and evaluation of engineering design and construction plans and specifications for disciplines including, but not limited to, Roadway, Traffic, Structural, Hydraulic, Geotechnical, Environmental, Materials, and Construction Management.

Environmental Factors

Duties are generally performed in both office and field settings for which private means of transportation must be available. Fieldwork may involve exposure to hazardous materials, traffic hazards, and construction sites during all weather conditions and may involve traversing rough terrain and bodies of water. Some work outside of regular working hours, including attend ance at public meetings, may be required. Strong differences of opinion may be encountered on a regular basis.
