Work Type: Full Time

Hours Per Week: 40.00

Work Schedule: 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM

Sign on bonus: This position is eligible for a $7,000 sign on bonus.

Summary:

The surgical assistants provide aid in exposure, hemostasis, closure, and other intraoperative technical functions that help the surgeon carry out a safe operation with optimal results for the patient. In addition to intraoperative duties, the surgical assistant also performs preoperative and postoperative duties to better facilitate proper patient care. The surgical assistant performs these functions during the operation under the direction and supervision of the surgeon and in accordance with hospital policy and appropriate laws and regulations.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintains sterile operative fields.

  • Maintains inventory of medical supplies or equipment.

  • Assists healthcare practitioners during surgery.

  • Positions patients for treatment or examination.

  • Protect patients or staff members using safety equipment.

  • Orients new staff to unit and specific specialty.

  • Provides 2 Inservice Education offerings yearly.

  • Cross trained to another department (including expertise in more than one service).

  • Maintains a safe environment complying with NLH policies and procedures; reports and directly addresses environmental hazards and violations of patient safety policy and/or protocol when involved or observed.

Other Information:

  • Certification as CFA or CSA.

  • BLS certification is to be obtained prior to independently caring for patients and is to be kept current.

Education

Working Conditions

  • Lifting, moving and loading 30 to 50 pounds.

  • Alternate shift schedules (day, evening, nights, weekends).
