Johns Hopkins University Research Technologist in Baltimore, Maryland
The Infectious Diseases division is seeking a highly motivated individual to work as a Research Technologist . The Research Technologist will conduct research studies related to the study of bacteria and their treatment in mouse models and make intellectual contributions to the scientific research of the lab. This position involves acquiring new knowledge in several fields and learning fundamental skills in biomedical laboratory research. Individuals in this position have gone on to successfully pursue entry into graduate or medical schools. An individual with an interest in intellectual and technical growth will benefit from this position.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Follows established procedures or protocols and utilizes aseptic technique to perform experiments associated with microbiology and molecular biology that focuses on bacteria.
Be involved in handling mice and supporting study of bacterial diseases, their treatments and assessments of bacterial genes in mice.
Operate basic laboratory equipment such as centrifuge, pH meter, analytical balance, spectrophotometer, light microscope, and/or utilize laminar flow hood.
May also utilize sophisticated instrumentation such as thermal cycler, pipettes and spectrophotometer.
Operate lab computers for data entry.
Maintain accurate data records.
Maintain and make minor adjustments to equipment, e.g. calibrating, alignment.
Prepare solutions, reagents, and stains following standard laboratory formulas and procedures.
Monitor inventory levels.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry or related field
Some related post-undergraduate work experience preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
Basic Microsoft Office experience helpful.
Some laboratory experience preferred.

Starting Salary Range: $15.50 - $26.00 HRLY ($42,000 targeted; Commensurate with experience)
