Johns Hopkins University Research Technologist in Baltimore, Maryland

The Johns Hopkins University department of Otolaryngology is seeking a Research Technologist , the position will have primary duties to include, but are not limited to the following: Will be responsible for independently performing routine research testing and contributing to the general maintenance of the lab, supplies and equipment. Use basic science knowledge to learn techniques/methods of the lab. Perform laboratory experiments by following protocols or with instruction. This may require techniques associated with electrophysiology.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • The Research Technologist is expected to perform surgery (both survival and terminal), record eye movements and other behavioral tests, and perform extracellular recording from neurons in mice.

  • Will utilize in vivo models in experiments following experimental protocols.

  • Monitors animals and maintains lab records in accordance with USDA and AALAC guidelines.

  • Complies with biohazard safety standards through proper handling of potentially hazardous chemical and biological agents in the workplace.

  • Completes annual University biohazard/universal precaution safety training as appropriate.

  • Use sterile techniques to avoid contaminating lab experiments.

  • Use universal safety precautions to protect self and co-workers.

  • Prepares solutions following standard laboratory formulas and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry or related field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Some related post-undergraduate work experience.

  • Master's Degree.

Starting Salary Range: $15.50 - $26.00 HRLY ($39,000 targeted; Commensurate with experience)
