Johns Hopkins University Research Program Assistant II in Baltimore, Maryland

The Department of Bayview Geriatric Psychiatry and Neuropsychiatry is seeking a Research Program Assistant II to focus on research in but not limited to traumatic brain injury, neuropsychiatric disorders, and neuroimaging. The Research Program Assistant II is responsible for participant recruitment; completion of initial and follow-up participant visits (including home visits); escorting participants to magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans; organization, entry, maintenance and accuracy of all participants clinical research data in a timely and ongoing manner. Research Program Assistant II will receive training in administering psychiatric symptom scales and Research Program Assistant II will be given ample opportunity to be part of ongoing literature reviews and secondary data analyses leading to authorship on publications.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Recruit participants from the Johns Hopkins Hospital Emergency Department and complete informed consent process.

  • Verify participant eligibility for studies by comparing patient history with protocol requirements.

  • Complete initial and follow-up visits, including escorting patients to MRI scans.

  • Some participant visits may be within participant home.

  • Be trained in and complete psychiatric symptom and cognitive scales.

  • Collect data and carry out the related work necessary to complete study goals.

  • Perform data entry ensuring complete and accurate database entry.

  • Ensure adherence to study protocols and study quality and maintain patient confidentiality.

  • Create forms for study use (i.e., recruitment flyers, data collection sheets, consent forms, etc.).

  • Edit and complete IRB submissions, including new projects, continuing review, termination reports, and further study actions.

  • Create and maintain databases. Maintain records for various research projects. Perform simple statistics in Microsoft Excel.

  • Extrapolate data and display in a recognizable format to present to study team members and the PI.

  • Create figures and diagrams for manuscripts and posters. Develop and edit manuscripts and posters.

  • Prepare reports and applications to funding agencies and internal sources including IRB. Coordinate conference calls and meetings for various research projects.

  • Plan, support, and communicate meetings of investigators.

  • Gain familiarity with library research procedures, completing literature searches culminating in the development of and maintenance of a reference library.

  • Conduct reviews of the scientific literature and maintain bibliography.

  • Meet with Principal Investigator to review study progress.

  • Very strong organizational skills, analytical and problem-solving abilities, and attention to detail. Ability to maintain confidentiality.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written.

  • Ability to effectively interact with all levels of employees as well as outside contacts.

  • Excellent computer skills including proficiency in MS word, Excel and Power Point.

  • Must have good people skills and excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk or sit for an extended period of time.

  • Communication skills using the spoken word.

  • Ability to see and hear within normal parameters; manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.

  • Possible exposure to communicable diseases.

  • Ability and licensure to operate a motor vehicle.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or graduation equivalent

  • Two years related experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related discipline.

  • Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required educations, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Starting Salary Range: Min $15.50 - Max $26.00 HRLY ($43,160 targeted; Commensurate with experience)
