Cleveland Clinic MOHS Technician - Derm Surgery, Part Time, Days in Avon, Ohio

Equipped with the latest technologies, Cleveland Clinic's Richard E. Jacobs Health Center brings world-class care close to home for the residents in and around Avon, Ohio. In addition to advanced specialty and primary care, this facility also includes an outpatient surgery center, an infusion suite for chemotherapy, a full-scale imaging center, two pools for aquatic therapy and more.

MOHS Technicians are an integral part of the Mohs surgery process as they provide the histology for each Mohs case and provide histotechnology support to a fellowship trained (American College of Mohs Micrographic Surgery) Mohs Surgeon. In this role, you will:

  • Accurately prepare and process histologic specimens for microscopic evaluation and review by the Mohs Surgeon.

  • Complete operation of the lab according to all standards set forth by OSHA, CLIA and other regulatory agencies.

  • Identify and implement any new regulatory agency standards and communicate information to a supervisor.

This part time role will work at Cleveland Clinic's Richard E. Jacobs Health Center, but also float to Cleveland Clinic's Main Campus and other locations if emergency coverage is needed. The person in this role will work mainly at Main Campus and float to Avon and Independence locations as needed.

This is a part time role.

Responsibilities:

  • Opens lab for daily operation; checks temperatures, all equipment, machines and documents accordingly.

  • Prepares all solutions, fixatives, and stains.

  • Prepares specimens for embedding, embeds specimens, sections frozen specimens using the Cryostat microtome.

  • Mounts and labels the prepared microscopic slides and stain slides.

  • Maintains quality control records of equipment, instruments, procedures and slide photo library on all patients.

  • Performs daily cleaning and weekly maintenance, calibration and troubleshooting as scheduled and as needed on the Cryostat microtome, Stainer, and all other instruments.

  • Notifies the Supervisor of all malfunctioning equipment and needed supplies.

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED.

Certifications:

  • Licensed histotechnologist or Mohs Technician is preferred but not required.

Complexity of Work:

  • Within scope of job, requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.

  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment.

Work Experience:

  • A minimum of one year of Histology, Mohs or relevant laboratory experience is required.

  • Demonstrated technical proficiency in the histology techniques of staining, tissue sectioning, fixation, and embedding.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to safely handle hazardous materials to which one may be exposed.

  • Manual dexterity required to handle equipment and tissue specimen.

  • Good hand and eye coordination and visual acuity required.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
