What is it that we do at Colonial Pipeline Company?

Colonial Pipeline is the largest refined products pipeline in the United States, transporting more than 100 million gallons or 2.5 million barrels per day. Colonial transports various grades of gasoline, diesel fuel, home heating oil, jet fuel, and fuels for the U.S. military through a pipeline system. Colonial transports approximately 45 percent of all fuel consumed on the East Coast, providing refined products to more than 50 million Americans.

About the Corrosion Technician (or Senior) Position

As a Corrosion Technician, you will be responsible for performing corrosion prevention assessments and maintenance activities along the pipeline system ensuring that all activities required by 49 CFR 195 Subpart H are completed and documented in the appropriate company database system. In addition, contractor oversight and inspection is required to ensure company policies, procedures and safe work practices are being followed. You are someone who excels at working independently and is an innovative thinker.

What You Get to Do:

  • Perform surveys, testing, troubleshooting and inspections of Colonial’s corrosion control systems.

  • Maintain the corrosion protection system components.

  • Ensure corrosion contractors perform work in accordance withColonial standards, specifications, and procedures.

  • Build relationships between the corrosion team, other functional positions, and other utility companies.

  • Document completed work using Colonial’s Document Management System and other approved databases.

What You Bring to the Table:

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree from an accredited educational institution. OR a Bachelor’s Degreefrom an accredited college or university. OR ideally 9+ years of pipeline corrosion experience maybe considering in combination of education and/or experience.

  • Ideally,3-5+ years of corrosion prevention related work experience.

  • NACE CP 1 Cathodic Protection Tester OR NACE Corrosion Technologist certification, for Senior NACE CP Level 2, or NACE CP Level 3, Senior Corrosion Technologist and CIP Level 1 Certifications.

  • Valid Driver’s License and satisfactory driving record to travelfor performing field surveys, inspections, etc. The ability for up to 30% overnight travel.

  • Basic level of corrosion control skills and knowledge, including pipeline construction and excavation.

  • Basic knowledge of pipeline coatings and cathodic protection installations and understanding and evaluation of cathodic protection readings.

  • Ability to oversee installation and repairs of corrosion prevention systems.

  • Ideally, 5-10+ years of corrosion prevention related work experience.

  • Working knowledge of 49 CFR Part 195 Subpart H.

  • Ability to perform and maintain covered tasks required by the OPS Operator Qualification rule.

Physical Requirements & Work Conditions:

Normal vision or corrected vision. Digital dexterity for operation of calculator, PC keyboard and mouse. Hearing in the normal range. Physical mobility to walk, sit, stand, reach, pull, push and bend. Medium physical challenge that requires frequent driving and walking on unpaved surfaces; some climbing and lifting/carrying objects. Walk up to 5 miles of pipeline ROW per day. Operate vehicle for up to 8 hours per day. Lift objects weighing in excess of 30 lbs. Climb stairs, vertical ladders up to 10 ft. high and tank steps with total height up to 60 ft. Requires complex mental activity and awareness of job hazards. Majority of work is in an outdoor environment including pipeline ROW, pipeline facilities and construction sites. Some work is in a typical office environment

This is a Department of Transportation (DOT) covered job and is subject to all applicable regulatory requirements such as testing for the presence of prohibited drugs and alcohol as defined under 49 CFR Part 199 as a condition of employment, to include pre-employment, random, post-accident, reasonable cause/suspicion and fit for duty testing.

Colonial adheres to PHMSA's (Pipeline Hazardous Material Safety Administration ) and this is a Control Room Management covered position as it relates to Annual Fatigue Training, HOS Policy, and HOS Waivers.
