Oracle Senior Principal Software Engineer in Austin, Texas

As a Senior Principal Software Engineer, you will be responsible for helping design, build, test, deploy and operate highly scalable solutions for Oracle's Data Intelligence Platform. You should be comfortable with building complex systems involving the management of 1000s of customers. You should be a rock-solid coder with a good understanding of cloud applications. You should value simplicity and scale, work comfortably in a collaborative, agile environment, and be excited to learn. You will be able to identify areas for improvement and implement changes to improve the quality and efficiency of the software development process. You should be an excellent communicator with both technical and non-technical stakeholders and should have experience in developing and presenting roadmaps and business cases to senior management. Your experience in leading cross-functional teams will enable you to work collaboratively with other teams across the world. Your technical experience will allow you to oversee the design of scalable and reliable systems as you collaborate with architects and highly experienced engineers. Most importantly, you should be a team player, someone who is eager to learn, passionate about people, and willing to do whatever it takes to help the team succeed. You will also represent the team in various architecture reviews and release management forums.

Responsibilities

As a member of the software engineering division, you will take an active role in the definition and evolution of standard practices and procedures. Define specifications for significant new projects and specify, design and develop software according to those specifications. You will perform professional software development tasks associated with the developing, designing and debugging of software applications or operating systems.

Provide leadership and expertise in the development of new products/services/processes, frequently operating at the leading edge of technology. Recommends and justifies major changes to existing products/services/processes.

  • Provide technical leadership to other software developers.

  • Able to specify, design and implement changes to existing software architecture to meet changing needs.

  • Have a good broader business understanding and mindset, while technically leading efforts in specific areas. Make effective judgments and choices on design and roadmap based on various considerations.

  • Ability to work in an extremely fast paced and challenging, global environment

Preferred skills and qualifications

  • 12+ years of experience in building and delivering distributed, scalable applications

  • Bachelor Degree in Computer Science/Engineering or Master’s from one of the top Universities.

  • Full stack developer characteristics with strong expertise one or more of following:

  • Strong programming skills and experience in Java/J2EE, JAX-RS, Jersey, Jackson, JAXB etc.

  • HTML5, JavaScript, jQuery, Knockout, CSS, MVVM Architecture. Knowledge in Oracle Jet toolkit would be a plus.

  • Data modelling skills and expertise with Oracle database, SQL, etc.

  • Experience with Oracle Business Intelligence, Oracle Data Integrator would be a plus.

  • Experience in using and developing on CI/CD Tools, Jenkins/Hudson, Git, Build Automation Tools (gradle, maven), Shell scripts, Python would be a plus

  • Exposure to delivering Software as a Service on the Cloud. Understanding and experience with various aspects of delivering a modern cloud service such as building effective monitoring hooks, robust logging etc.

  • Strong High-level and Low-level Design skills for building software systems.

  • Full life-cycle experience (release of new features, patching, upgrading, maintenance etc.)

  • Experience with security and SSO

  • Experience with Performance Engineering at various levels.

  • Strong passion and interest in learning and working on new technology innovations.

  • Strong interpersonal and team leadership skills, with a proven track record of working with technical and non-technical personnel.

  • Ability to solve complex engineering problems and provide solutions.

  • Excellent communication skills.

Range and benefit information provided in this posting are specific to the stated locations only

US: Hiring Range: from $96,800 to $251,600 per annum. May be eligible for bonus, equity, and compensation deferral.

Oracle maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions and locations, as well as reflect Oracle’s differing products, industries and lines of business.

Candidates are typically placed into the range based on the preceding factors as well as internal peer equity.

Vacation accrual is prorated for employees working between 20 and 34 hours per week. Employees working fewer than 20 hours per week are not eligible for vacation.
