Location: AUSTIN, TX

We have an exciting and unique opportunity for a tech-savvy and leadership focused Principal DevOps Engineer to join the Realtor.com Developer Experience Platform team. You will help evolve our core platform technologies, DevOps tools, standards, and procedures to increase the effectiveness of our platform teams and improve the developer experience. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of software development and deployment processes, experience in managing large-scale, highly available systems, and expertise in automating and streamlining development, testing, and deployment workflows.

What you’ll do:

  • You will contribute to the strategic planning of the company's DevOps initiatives to ensure the scalability and sustainability of infrastructure and practices.

  • You will train, evangelize, and mentor Realtor.com staff to raise the bar and increase our ability to execute the company’s goals.

  • You will continue driving our Tech modernization journey with chosen technologies.

  • You will embrace continuous learning and foster this objective in others.

  • You will coordinate closely with the development teams, ensuring that they align with DevOps practices, tools, and processes to achieve Realtor.com ’s objectives and customer needs.

  • You will support the onboarding of the development teams' DevOps activities by understanding use cases and providing optimal solutions for any gaps identified.

  • Develop and maintain a robust and reusable set of CI/CD pipelines to accelerate development and deployment processes.

  • Ensure we have a robust and reusable set of CI/CD pipelines that allow us to move quickly.

  • You will make sure that the goals of performance, security, resilience, cost optimization, and operational efficiency are an integral part of all of our projects.

  • Actively seek out new technologies, evaluate them, and make recommendations to integrate them into our solutions and products.

  • Work in a primarily Agile/Scrum product development process.

What you’ll bring:

  • Computer Science/Engineering Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, Master’s a plus.

  • 15+ years of experience in relevant fields.

  • Solid understanding of Cloud technologies (preferably AWS services), and security and how they can be combined to design scalable cloud solutions.

  • Expert with Linux, containerization, and container orchestration with Kubernetes or EKS.

  • A strong bias toward developing Infrastructure as Code ( Terraform , Helm , or cloud formation ).

  • Expert in Continuous integration and continuous deployment tools and methodologies preferably CircleCI and/or ArgoCD.

  • Expert in ingress and egress management with Istio Service Mesh.

  • Expert in developing reusable Shell scripts and other middleware to tie disparate tools and systems together.

  • Solid understanding of software engineering principles and operations.

  • Proficient in responding to production emergencies, with emphasis on quick and safe issue resolution, document findings for post-mortem analysis, and continuous improvement.

  • Strong focus on maintaining system reliability and learning from incidents.

  • Highly detail-oriented, with exceptional prioritization skills and a strong sense of urgency to meet project deadlines and quality standards.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Takes pride in efficient designs and accurate results.

  • Comfortable with high levels of ambiguity and rapid change in priorities.

  • Balances the pros and cons of design options, guiding the team to the best solution through collaborative decision-making, including supporting a solution that may not be your own.

  • Demonstrating flexibility and the ability to adapt to new technologies and methodologies.

  • Effective team player. Honest and respectful of others.
