We are currently seeking a CTSS Software Developer . The position is located in Egg Harbor Township, NJ.

Job Summary

Battelle’s Aviation Security Division provides test and evaluation services to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Transportation Security Administration (TSA). The qualified candidate for this position will support DHS Independent Test and Evaluation (IT&E) events of security technologies at the Transportation Security Laboratory (TSL), where Battelle works alongside the client to evaluate and certify the performance of security screening equipment that secures our nation’s airports.

In this position, the successful candidate will:

  • Perform software engineering and analysis. Conduct quality control review, data reporting, and write/review technical documents.

  • Design, develop, document, test, and debug new and existing software systems, hardware/software interfaces, and/or applications according to industry established software engineering principles and best practices.

  • Develop automated tools and utilities to support custom data collection, analysis, and reporting capabilities to support testing operations.

  • Work collaboratively within a team to execute the full system development lifecycle, including analyzing user needs to determine technical requirements; developing technical specifications based on conceptual design and requirements; developing well‐crafted and documented source code; integrating hardware using software; automating manual tasks; and consulting with the end users to prototype, configure, refine, test, and debug programs or systems.

  • Identify and evaluate new technologies or methods for implementation and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Performs complex assignments by compiling and evaluating design and test data, preparing technical specifications, analyzing technical data to determine appropriate limits and variables for software systems, hardware/software interfaces, and/or applications.

  • Analyzes and interprets data collected and supports the development of analysis methodologies, tools, and reporting.

  • Prepares technical reports and makes presentations to clients, both formal and informal.

  • Conducts and leads small technical projects or phases of technical projects.

  • May provide technical direction to and coordinate the efforts of engineers and technical support staff in the performance of assigned projects within time and budget constraints.

  • Prepares technical sections of proof-of-concept design documents, white papers and presentations.

  • Communicates with clients regarding the schedule and quality of deliverables.

  • Creates software designs from use cases that consider security, ease of use, error and fault conditions, remote diagnostics and ease of maintenance.

  • Participates in, reviews and prepares material for code reviews and design reviews, interface documents, requirements documents to ensure product will meet customer requirements.

  • Reviews test procedures, data and oversees integrated testing.

  • Follows safety, security, quality, configuration management and operating policies and procedures.

  • Identifies enhancements to reduce life-cycle cost, improve performance, and integrate new technology.

  • Supports sustainment of deployed system software to ensure equipment availability.

Key Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field with 2 to 5 years of work experience.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Significant experience in the use of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

  • Candidate should be adept at designing and developing C# .NET, Java, Python, and C++ applications, and be proficient with object oriented programming paradigm to include objects, classes, subclasses, virtual methods, co-routines, and discrete event simulation.

  • Strong knowledge of DBMS concepts and experience working with relational databases and Microsoft SQL Server.

  • Hands-on experience using Linux command line and Microsoft Access.

  • Candidates should be highly motivated and self-starters with a strong desire to learn.

  • Demonstrated strong written and oral communication skills.

  • Travel required, up to 10-15%.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain Secret Clearance.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain DHS Suitability.

  • US Citizen

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in conducting configuration audits on software and associated hardware of complex systems.

  • Experience designing and executing test events to evaluate the performance of security screening technologies deployed by TSA for checkpoint, checked baggage, and on-person screening.

  • Experience with Explosive Detection Systems (EDS), Advanced Imaging Technology (AIT), Explosive Trace Detection (ETD), Advanced Technology (AT) X-ray systems, and other TSA-deployed screening technologies.

  • Experience and associated training to support work with explosive materials.

  • Active Secret Security Clearance.

  • Active DHS Suitability.
