Position Summary

The National Center for Primary Care (https://www.msm.edu/Research/research_centersandinstitutes/NCPC/index.php) ( NCPC ) at Morehouse School of Medicine ( MSM ) seeks to hire a clinician-researcher to serve as NCPC Assistant Research Director and Director of the Southeast Regional Clinicians Network (https://www.msm.edu/Research/research_centersandinstitutes/NCPC/divisions/research/practice-based-research.php) ( SERCN ). This individual will spend approximately 60-70% of their effort contributing to the NCPC’s broad scope of research activities under the leadership of the NCPC Research & Policy Division Director. This individual will spend approximately 30-40% of their effort providing clinical services in Morehouse Healthcare as clinical faculty through one of MSM’s primary care departments under the leadership of the Department Chair.

Under the guidance and direction of the NCPC Research & Policy Director, the Assistant Research Director will contribute to the NCPC’s broad scope of research activities. The individual will lead the design, planning, and implementation of existing research projects and collaborate with the NCPC research team on study design and development of research questions, analytic plans, manuscripts, and funding proposals. As the SERCN Director, this individual will oversee and coordinate all ongoing research and engagement activities related to SERCN , take on a leadership role on funded projects, and develop a strategic plan to guide SERCN activities over the next five years.

The individual will also have an academic/clinical appointment in one of MSM’s primary care clinical departments (Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Preventive Medicine, and Pediatrics).

Minimum Qualifications

  • MD/DO or equivalent doctoral degree

  • If applicable, Board Certification in a primary care specialty (Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Pediatrics, etc.)

  • Expertise in primary care and practice-based research

  • Strong commitment to and understanding of health equity

  • Established track record of scientific publications and research dissemination that includes local, regional, and national presentations at conferences and seminars

  • Demonstrated track record in or potential for securing external grant awards from such agencies as the National Institutes of Health, Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality ( AHRQ ), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute ( PCORI ), Health Resources & Services Administration ( HRSA ), National Science Foundation, and other funding agencies

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • High level of professionalism

    Preferred Qualifications

Experience conducting or contributing to health services, health policy, and/or community-based research using secondary data analysis, mixed-methods, and/or interventional approaches.

Familiarity using claims data and other large data sets.

Immunization Requirements

It is MSM’s Immunization policy that all Prospective Employees are required to provide proof that they are vaccinated against COVID -19 prior to commencement of employment. If employment will commence during Flu Season, MSM requires all individuals to provide proof that they are vaccinated against Seasonal Influenza for the current Flu Season, unless granted an exemption. Failure to provide proof of vaccination for any required vaccines or obtain an exemption from MSM will result in rescission of a candidate’s offer of employment or disciplinary action up to and including termination.
