Open to the general public and any current Municipal employee.
This position is represented by the Anchorage Municipal Employee Association (AMEA) and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the Union.
DEPARTMENT: Anchorage Water & Wastewater Utility
HOURS OF WORK: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
LOCATION: 3000 Arctic Boulevard
Example of Duties
Under limited supervision, the Engineering Technician III position performs duties at a skilled engineering level. Responsible for administering Anchorage Water and Wastewater Utility's (AWWU's) water and wastewater special assessment programs and maintaining assessment file. Researches and calculates water and wastewater assessments. Prepares necessary documents and documentation in order to levy water and wastewater special assessments. Provides the public with information on water and wastewater expansion programs. Adds and maintains information to applicable AWWU databases. Reviews and comments on water and wastewater designs for conformance with standard construction specifications, design criteria, and AWWU's tariffs. Performs a variety of other tasks specific to general operations within the Planning Section requiring good customer service, and administrative, research, and organizational skills. Perform other required duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent, and five (5) years of experience in one or more of the following fields: drafting, surveying, inspection, materials testing, plan review, permitting, computerized mapping, computer assisted design (CAD), traffic signal control, and/or code enforcement, and at least one (1) year of which must have been at the Engineering Technician II level with Municipality or equivalent elsewhere.
OR
Associate’s degree in Engineering, Geomatics, Construction Management, Computer Assisted Design (CAD), or a discipline specific to the department, and three (3) years of experience in one or more of the following fields: drafting, surveying, inspection, materials testing, plan review, permitting, computerized mapping, computer assisted design CAD), traffic signal control and/or code enforcement, and at least one (1) year of which must have been at the Engineering Technician II level with the Municipality or the equivalent elsewhere.
OR
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Geomatics, Construction Management, or a discipline specific to the department, and one (1) year of experience at the Engineering Technician II level with the Municipality or the equivalent elsewhere.
PREFERENCE
ESRI Technical Certification(s) or other Equivalent Industry Certifications or equivalent industry certifications.

Military Service Interview Preference

Proof of current service can be shown by submission of a statement of service which, at a minimum, shows the full name, date of birth, Social Security Number, date service began, branch of service, rank, name of command providing the information, and unit of assignment. The statement of service must be on a form or letterhead of the individual’s command organization, and shows the name, signature, title, and contact information of the signer providing the statement of service. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.
