About the role:

Barry Callebaut’s American Canyon is seeking a highly motivated and creative Site Manager with exceptional multi-tasking skills to control all facets of the organization. This person will oversee the manufacturing, maintenance, engineering, purchasing, food quality, supply chain and safety. In addition, the Site Manager will oversee all budget requirements for the site. As the world’s largest Chocolate and Cocoa manufacturer, Barry Callebaut is committed to providing the very best customer and employee experience possible.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Ensure the safety of all employees, be familiar with and implement all relevant regulations related to safety, food safety, environmental protection and ensure the plant complies at all times. Monitor and improve safety, food safety and environmental performance.

  • Lead, direct, and control the day-to-day activities of the factory to achieve the quality, operational and financial objectives on short and medium-term in line with the overall Corporate Business plan.

  • Set, and monitor the performance of the Plant against standards and targets (using balanced scorecards) in areas such as manufacturing (processes) and administration efficiency, cost control (budget process, controlling, measurement, KPI management), legal compliance, and human resource management.

  • Lead, direct, evaluate, and develop a team of Functional and Operational Managers or other professionals (for example Controlling, IT, SC) to ensure that the plant meets its established targets and standards.

  • Develops people: providing learning, growth, building community and a strong cross functional collaborative approach.

  • Leadership Role model living Barry Callebaut values.

  • Defines mission and strategy of the site in line with the OSCO strategy and S/D strategy.

  • Defines with the Plant lead team “Team strategy and Deployment initiatives”.

  • Responsible for activities such as Manufacturing, Safety, Maintenance, Quality, Engineering, Supply Chain, Finance Controlling, IT and administration.

  • Establish operating budgets; monitor the cost and effectiveness of production activities to optimize resources, prioritize spending, and achieve volume, quality, and manufacturing standards.

  • Develop and drive the implementation of a variety of operating Policies and Procedures (in conjunction with corporate subject matter experts) to ensure that the plant meets it current and future Operation targets, Safety and Quality standards.

  • Identifying and implementing process improvements, lean manufacturing initiatives, and new technologies to increase efficiency and reduce waste.

  • Manage the infrastructure of the factory and ensure the factory remains under hygienic conditions.

  • Maintenance and equipment management: Overseeing the maintenance and repair of equipment and machinery to minimize downtime and ensure smooth production processes.

  • Inventory management: Monitoring and managing raw materials, finished goods, and supplies to maintain appropriate inventory levels and prevent stock outs or overstocking.

    About you:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science with an emphasis in Industrial or Mechanical Engineering and/or experience in related field.

  • 7+ years of experience in Food manufacturing management, preferably in process-orientated operations and/or related industry.

  • 5 - 10 years of experience managing a significant segment of a large manufacturer or the entire operation of a smaller manufacturer.

    Additional Requirements:

  • Strong technical background supporting continuous improvement work environment.

  • Proven business and people management skills, servant leadership mindset.

  • Detailed knowledge of plant and manufacturing functional disciplines.

  • Practical Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Lean Six Sigma and TPM.

  • Experience in Project Management through application of innovation/engineering projects.

  • Results oriented without losing sight of discipline to process sustain results.

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Multitasking and time-management skills.

  • Interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Knowledge of latest quality and safety laws / regulations.

  • Can prove strong focus on procedures (standardizing).

  • Good problem-solving abilities.

  • Knowledgeable in MS Office Suite, SAP Systems and other applications used in manufacturing e.g. scheduling, CMMS, MES, etc.

  • Languages: English professional, local language
