WIC-Nutritionist

This position is a hands-on counseling position in the premier nutrition education program in the country (based in Altoona). This is a program where you truly make a difference in an at-risk population. Assist in developing and providing quality services for the WIC Program. This will be done in a manner consistent with efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and regulatory compliance. This is a daytime position Monday-Friday 8:00 am-4:00 pm with no weekends or holidays.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform anthropometric measurement for WIC participants.

  • Assess participant need for use of a WIC breast pump.Issue and instruct participants in the use and cleaning of breast pumps.

  • Demonstrate support of Agency mission and philosophy in delivery of services.

  • Perform hemoglobin testing for WIC participants.

  • Provide inservice and training for WIC staff.

  • Assess and determine participant's nutritional risk for WIC and prescribe the appropriate food package.

  • Develop the nutrition care plan for high risk participants.

  • Prepare and submit required reports.

  • Assist in the planning and development of goals, objectives and activities for the WIC program.

  • Provide initial certification and re-certification of participants.

  • Perform data entry using the Department of Health QuickWIC Data System.

  • Represent and participate in Agency professional and community activities as requested.

  • Provide outreach and educational programs to community agencies and interested groups to increase WIC enrollment.

  • Provide information and referral to participants for other health & human services programs as indicated by participant need.

  • Provide breastfeeding education and support to WIC families.

  • Endeavor to achieve and maintain quality and customer satisfaction in the delivery of services to internal/external customers.

  • Maintain and protect participant and Agency confidentiality.

  • Promote personal and co-worker safety during work duties.

  • Provide nutrition education and counseling to WIC participants.

  • Assist families in developing healthy eating goals and provide on-going education to support the goals.

  • Maintain participant records in accordance with Agency and Department of Health policies and procedures.Complete on-line documentation of all nutrition education contacts, topics and comments.

  • Participate in orientation and performance improvement activities.

  • Provide supervision at designated satellite clinic sites.

  • Print and issue food instruments in accordance with all policies and state and federal regulations.

  • Develop and implement the nutrition education component to include continuing updates as necessary to meet federal regulations.

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field required.

  • Minimum of two years related work experience preferred.

  • Competency in computer skills in a Windows based environment. Demonstrate ability to perform computer skills in specialized computer application(s) as needed.

  • Access to transportation in the Agency service area with valid Pennsylvania driver's license and auto liability insurance. Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Automotive Insurance

  • Driver's License

  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting

  • Act 33 with renewal

  • Act 34 with renewal

  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal

  • OAPSA
