Colonial Pipeline is the largest refined products pipeline in the United States, transporting more than 100 million gallons or 2.5 million barrels per day. Colonial transports various grades of gasoline, diesel fuel, home heating oil, jet fuel, and fuels for the U.S. military through a pipeline system. Colonial transports approximately 45 percent of all fuel consumed on the East Coast, providing refined products to more than 50 million Americans.

About the L ead Analytics Engineer Position

As the Lead Analytics Engineer, you will develop and implement processes to conduct analyses on data across all company domains, develop and build data products based on the analyses performed, and develop analytics data processes to drive improved business outcomes. This position will provide ongoing subject matter expertise to support both new and existing processes related to the extraction, transformation, integration, processing, and analysis of datasets throughout the organization. The Lead Analytics Engineer will assist in the development and implementation of processes to ensure metadata and documentation of the analytics products and data sources utilized by the analytics engineering team are properly implemented and maintained in compliance with software engineering best practices.

  • Drive the development and enhancement of business intelligence and data visualizations, assuming ownership of advanced analytics solutions.

  • Apply software engineering best practices to analytics code.

  • Elevate the quality and efficiency of analytics code, taking a leadership role in development and implementation of best practices and internal policies.

  • Lead the design, deployment, and optimization of complex data models to support diverse business use cases, leveraging extensive technical expertise.

  • Lead the development and implementation of robust ELT/ETL pipelines for analytics engineering processes and products.

  • Collaborate closely with the Data Science team to pioneer AI/ML solutions and advanced analytics, serving as a subject matter expert when needed.

  • Drive the development and maintenance of Enterprise Data Model Roadmaps through active participation and extensive technical contribution, providing expertise and guidance.

  • Collaborate with the Data Governance team to establish and enforce data quality standards and metrics.

  • Provide strategic guidance to the Data Platform team to address enterprise data pipeline and curation requirements.

  • Partner with cross-functional teams to leverage data in identifying opportunities and addressing business challenges, leveraging extensive technical skillset to meet analytics needs across the organization.

  • Engage with organizational leaders to conceptualize, plan, and execute data-driven projects at scale, serving as a senior-level advisor.

  • Take charge of major data initiatives and projects, demonstrating leadership in driving strategic outcomes.

What You Bring to the Table:

  • Bachelor’sdegreedata science, analytics, engineering, or in related field of study from an accredited college or university; will consider a combination of experience and/or education.

  • Ideally 7+ years of experience working directly in Data Engineering, Data Modeling, Analytics or Analytics Engineering.

  • Expert knowledge and understanding of relational database systems.

  • Experience integrating datasets from multiple sources using ETL, remote database connections, or dashboarding tools.

  • Strong data visualization and storytelling skills.

  • Solutions oriented mindset.
