Amentum Facilities Operations Superintendent in Alice Springs, Australia

The Facilities Operations Superintendent leads a multi-skilled team in the safe and effective operation and maintenance of facility infrastructure and systems. The Facilities Operations Superintendent provides a professional service in leading and coordinating technical control, operation, maintenance and configuration of all assigned facility infrastructure systems and equipment, through the leadership and supervision of an allocated crew of technical tradespeople. This includes responsibility for planning, organization, coordination, scheduling, training, mentoring, as well as the resource and performance management relevant to their team’s day-to-day operation of the facility.

The Facilities Operations Superintendent is accountable for the efficient functioning of his or her team, including the timely identification and completion of operational and maintenance work tasks and ensuring high levels of service are maintained. This role also ensures that the facility operational configuration is controlled in a manner that maximises productivity and equipment reliability.

The Facilities Operations Superintendent is responsible for a small team of experienced tradespeople. Within this team the Facilities Operations Superintendent must foster a culture of continuous improvement, supporting the implementation of improvement initiatives and technical advances.

This position works closely with other Facilities O&M Superintendents to foster, promote and maintain best-practice standardization across the multiple shift crews to enable reliable, consistent and effective delivery of 24/7/365 facility operational support. This role is key to the success of the broader O&M team and thus also works closely with the Facilities Operations Manager and O&M Manager in the delivery of high-quality facility O&M services to enable the mission.

Responsibilities/Duties

  1. Lead the operational control of facility infrastructure, systems and equipment.

  2. Lead the effective and efficient operation of the Facility Control Centre (FCC), to include tracking and management of real-time site-wide impairment status, resource location and permitting.

  3. Lead, plan, organize, resource, supervise and coordinate the day-to-day operation of allocated facility infrastructure, equipment and systems.

  4. Lead, plan, organize, resource, supervise and coordinate configuration changes on assigned facility systems and associated equipment, in line with scheduled and reactive requirements.

  5. Coordinate, supervise and lead rapid and reliable response to abnormal facility operational situations and emergencies.

  6. Supervise and lead assigned team to achieve allocated elements of the Program Statement of Work (SOW) requirements.

  7. Ensure assigned team maintains a complete and current working understanding of all relevant operational facilities infrastructure, equipment and systems.

  8. Supervise and coordinate the delivery of training necessary to maintain the competence of all assigned team members.

  9. Facilitate and contribute to the ongoing standardization and update of established and new training packages relevant to facility operations.

  10. Effectively liaise and communicate with peers (other Facilities Operations Superintendents) to ensure best-practice standardization, coverage and continuous improvement across all shift crews.

  11. Evaluate and document the functionality and reliability of assigned systems and associated equipment, to include the compilation and maintenance of concise and accurate logs.

  12. Identify, propose and contribute to the development of process improvements relevant to assigned system and equipment responsibilities.

  13. Initiate review and analysis of trend data; identifying, recommending, and implementing any necessary modifications, expansions and/or additions to relevant standard operating procedures, emergency response plans or maintenance task lists.

  14. Develop and implement systems that contribute to quality improvements in the execution of the team’s allocated tasks.

  15. Facilitate the development of primary utility transfer and switching procedures.

  16. Implement and manage processes to ensure consistent review and update of technical drawings, panel schedules and equipment operating procedures.

  17. Ensure team compliance with relevant regulations, policies and procedures.

  18. Maintain safe and healthy work environment by following and enforcing site environmental health and safety (EHS) policies and procedures; complying with all applicable Work Health Safety (WHS) Act standards

  19. Manage personnel issues and leave requests; ensure the maintenance of appropriate coverage necessary to meet site requirements and ensure compliance with OASIS processes and procedures

  20. Any other reasonable duties as required by the direct line manager or delegate.

QUALIFICATIONS, TICKETS and LICENSES

Minimum Essential

  • (AUS) Certificate III in a relevant Trade (electrical, plumbing, refrigeration, mechanical) or equivalent experience and skills (US) related facilities certifications

Desirable

  • HV switching certification and experience

  • Certificate IV in relevant field

EXPERIENCE and COMPETENCIES –

Minimum Essential

  • Demonstrated experience in a facilities operations or maintenance environment

  • Demonstrated experience in power Generation or Power Networks

  • Demonstrated leadership and supervision qualities

  • Strong understanding of technical plans and drawings

  • Well developed interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills

  • Experience in operational configuration planning and execution in a team environment

  • Proficient with Microsoft office software

Desirable

  • 5 years’ experience as Facilities/Infrastructure Operator

  • Experience working with HMI based control systems/ SCADA or BMS systems

  • Strong understanding of general equipment maintenance requirements (preventive, predictive, and corrective)
