What Your Job Will Be Like:

We are seeking a dedicated R&D Systems Engineer - System AI&T/Qualification Lead. This role will be responsible for ensuring proper planning, execution, documentation, and reporting of the comprehensive range of activities used to verify that the Mobile Guardian Transporter (MGT) meets its system-level requirements.

The AI&T/Qualification Team conducts verification and validation activities including module/subsystems level verification, full-scale system tests (non-destructive and destructive), and management of modeling & simulation activities. The successful candidate will engage with a broad range of internal Sandia organizational partners, including Weapon Systems, test and analysis groups, and the Production Agency.

On any given day you will be called upon to:

  • Provide technical and programmatic leadership of the MGT AI&T/Qualification Team in planning and implementing system-level AI&T/qualification activities including trailer assembly, functional testing, normal, abnormal, and hostile environments testing.

  • Engage in major schedule, budget, and risk management activities.

  • Lead the implementation of the MGT System Qualification Plan Volume (QPV) and guide efforts defining and executing test activities, data collection, and analysis.

  • Prepare and present both technical and programmatic status to internal and external partners, including Sandia management and Federal Program management.

  • Lead and guide the development and release of documentation including qualification plan volumes (QPVs), test plans, test readiness reviews, test execution, data assessments, quick look reports, and test reports.

  • Work with the MGT Systems Engineering lead to support updates to system-level documentation including environmental specs, requirements, verification reports, etc. and to qualification plans (PQs) and templates needed for qualification documentation and processes.

  • Collaborate with the MGT design team leads to support subsystem-level qualification activities.

  • Work with the MGT ModSim lead to ensure modeling and simulation activities meet qualification needs.

  • Engage with facility capabilities to mitigate risk and gaps in system-level qualification activities.

  • Work with MGT project controllers to oversee PTs and charging (labor/ODC) and status the AI&T/Qualification schedule.

    Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite. This position will require occasional travel to support program qualification efforts.

Qualifications We Require:

  • Bachelor’s degree in System Engineering, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or relevant STEM field plus 5 years’ relevant experience; OR master’s degree plus 2 years’ relevant experience

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q or DOD Top Secret Clearance which may require a polygraph

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Master’s degree in above stated fields.

  • Active DOE Q or DOD Top Secret Clearance.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead a large technical team in the execution of highly complex and varied technical activities.

  • Understanding of requirements flow down and verification methodologies.

  • Proficiency with varied communication methods, including oral presentation, preparation of high-impact visual presentations, written reports, and the ability to communicate scientific and technical information at a level tailored the audience.

  • Proven ability to plan and manage cost, schedule, and performance for a large-scale project.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of the Nuclear Deterrence product realization process, including the Engineering Authorization process.

About Our Team:

We are responsible for the qualification of the Mobile Guardian Transporter (MGT) which is the next-generation replacement for the existing Safeguard Transporter (SGT). The MGT will assure the safety and security of cargo and containers, protect the public, meet nuclear explosive safety requirements associated with accident scenarios and reduce the risk to new security threats. The MGT is a highly complex system with demanding safety, security, and technical performance requirements.

Security Clearance:

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.
