If so, then join our dynamic team as a Computer Science R&D staff that is building the Digital Thread Engineering part of the Digital Engineering Ecosystem of the future for Sandia and the Nuclear Security Complex!

On any given day, you may be called upon to:

  • Lead development of solutions to complex problems requiring creativity and in-depth analysis of architectures, structures, and/or data for integration and tool interoperability with the Sandia digital thread technology for ND tools including DOORS, CAMEO, GENESYS, PDMLink, and CREO

  • Development of mappings and ontologies for customer technologies to enable integration with the Sandia site digital thread platform, both at tactical and strategic levels.

  • Execute full stack software development, testing qualification, and deployment, guide and support system administration activities, perform software troubleshooting

  • Lead and partner with the Digital Thread Engineering team to determine digital thread engineering requirements and use technical software concepts to incorporate these requirements into solutions that involve commercial-off-the-shelf, open source, or internally developed domain options

  • Integrate strategic thinking into the formulation of solutions and capabilities to ensure that long-term objectives and impacts are factored into the design process

This position is eligible for part-time telecommuting. Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite 40-90% of the time.

Qualifications We Require:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or a relevant technical field plus (5) years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience

  • Experience in mechanical or electrical design, computer science, digital engineering methodologies, ontologies, and other related disciplines

  • Knowledge and experience in multiple specialized domains of information systems, computer science, or software technology

  • Ability to acquire and maintain a DOE Q level clearance

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or a relevant technical field

  • Experience in mechanical or electrical design, computer science, digital engineering methodologies, ontologies

  • Excellent knowledge of ongoing trends in the information systems field and the ability to understand and work with new and emerging technologies

  • Demonstrated ability to use computer science principles dealing with complexity, scalability, robustness, integrity, correctness, and protocols

  • Experience with software tools including Java, Spring Boot, Python, Rad Hat OpenSHift, Kubernetes, Podman, React, Java Script, C#, Denodo, Fuseki, and Tableau

  • Understanding of client/server, web-based, and server-side computing architectures

  • Experience deploying system updates, identifying/fixing production issues, and implementing software integrations

  • Experience using CI/CD tools such as Maven, Gradle, Jenkins, GitLab, GitHub, or Docker

  • Experience designing and implementing SQL and/or NoSQL databases as well as an understanding and experience with query languages and data mining tools for database interaction and multi-source data integration

  • Experience with agile software development methodologies such as Scrum, Kanban, or other processes including XP, test driven development, continuous integration

  • Proven interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team setting for a common purpose

  • Ability to model behaviors that reflect Sandia's core values

About Our Team:

he Digital Thread Engineering team in Organization 292 is responsible for designing, developing, testing, qualifying, and producing the Digital Thread Tool Interoperability platform for Sandia National Labs and also for integration with the NSE Enterprise-level Digital Engineering architecture. Our Digital Thread Engineering team partners closely with the other organizations in 290 including the Virtual Technologies and Engineering, Data Engineering & Analytics, and Model Based Systems Engineering teams as well as with ND Modernization programs, ASC, and PRIDE. The team also partners across NSE (LANL, LLNL, NSC-KC, Pantex, etc.) and DoD sponsors.

Posting Duration:

Security Clearance:

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.

If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.

Position Information:

This Limited Term Employee (LTE) position is a temporary position for one year term, which may be renewed at Sandia's discretion up to a maximum of seven years.

Individuals in LTE positions may bid on regular Sandia positions as internal candidates, and in some cases may be converted to regular career positions during their term if warranted by ongoing operational needs, continuing availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance.
