Environmental Engineer/Scientist

POWER Engineers, Inc. is seeking a highly motivated Environmental Engineer/Scientist to join a team of environmental consulting professionals that assists our power generation sector clients in air quality permitting and maintaining compliance with state and federal air quality/environmental regulations.  This position is based in the Austin, Texas office and is open to remote work for applicants with experience in Texas. The employee may travel to various POWER offices for periodic meetings

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Assists power generation sector clients in determining federal and state air quality regulatory applicability and develops strategies and systems for compliance

  • Preparing applications for initial pre-construction air quality permits and for air quality permit renewals, amendments, and alterations for submission to state and federal agencies

  • Performing air quality and other environmental regulatory compliance tasks, including preparation of periodic reports such as emissions inventories, hazardous chemical inventory reports, and others.

  • Assisting clients with environmental, social, and governance (ESG) and sustainability reporting

  • Advocates for POWER’s clients, keeping them informed of pertinent regulatory matters and other issues that impact their business

  • Defining data requirements, gathering and validating information for emission calculations

  • Contributing to ambient air quality impacts analyses utilizing dispersion models (such as AERMOD, SCREEN3, and AERSCREEN) for the purpose of supporting air permitting projects

  • Utilizing software for emissions estimation, regulatory compliance management, and/or assessment of air quality impacts

  • Various aspects of project management, including managing projects and tasks; preparing proposals; coordinating with other staff to prepare and distribute invoices; managing complex project tasks in support of large projects; liaising with clients and other POWER staff; and, developing business on a continuous basis to support the department and company’s financial goals.

  • Develops business for POWER by networking with potential clients and participating in professional trade associations by attending conferences, tradeshows, and webinars

  • Advocates for POWER’s clients, keeping them informed of pertinent regulatory matters and other issues that impact their business

  • Supports business development activities by helping to develop internal marketing materials and contributes technical articles to POWER publications

  • Communicating scientific and technical information through oral briefings, written documents, workshops, and conferences

  • Participates in public meetings and hearings on behalf of clients

  • Performs and ensures QA/QC of technical work

Required Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical or Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Meteorology, or related science field

  • Three (3) to eight (8) years of relevant air quality permitting and compliance experience, with direct experience permitting power generation facilities

  • Excellent communication skills including report writing, oral presentations, and direct verbal communication

  • Proficiency in the use of standard software including Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

  • Availability to travel to client sites periodically

  • Valid driver's license

Desired Education/Experience

  • Master's degree in Chemical or Environmental Engineering or a related science field

  •  PE certification

  •  Prior environmental consulting experience

  •  Client management experience

  •  Familiarity with calculations, compliance, and regulatory compliance management software for the assessment of air quality emissions and impacts
