The opportunity

Design to Cost Engineer is responsible for developing analyses and opportunities using their mec ha n ical engineering skills. This Engineer will work with multiple Abbott businesses to secure the product supply, reduce costs, increase yields, value engineer products, solidifying the Abbott Labs supply chain.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Develop a portfolio of projects to deliver results in fast-changing business environments. 

  • Lead projects and project leaders to have a significant impact on global business.

  • Ideates with business stakeholders to deliver a broad solution set.

  • Solves complex problems, takes a broad perspective to identify solutions.

  • Drive value and savings for categories.

  • Collaboration with functions

Strategic Thinking:

  • Coordinate across corporate, functions, and divisions to share best practices and adherence to guidelines.

  • Understand the overall needs of multiple business units and negotiate an accepted portfolio meeting the most strategic needs of the category.

  • Measure and track internal performance.

  • Advise business unit(s) about similar strategies employed by other healthcare companies.

R el ationship Management:

  • Initiate a collaborative environment among stakeholders.

  • Maintain strong relationships across various functions, demonstrate the value-add of leveraging, and build enthusiasm and support for adoption.

  • Ensure optimal balance between value for money and cost savings is achieved, while ensuring quality and good customer service

  • Monitor market dynamics for categories across regions.

  • Continually look for opportunities for cost reductions and cost avoidance.

Compliance:

  • Responsible for compliance with applicable Corporate and Divisional policies and procedures.

Accountability:

  • Operates with goals set by the DVP/Senior Director of Category.

  • Has a direct impact on budgets, expenses, and major project completion.

Business Impact:

  • Spend: $50-100MM

  • Suppliers:500-750

  • Connection within business: 5-10

  • The span of control: global

Minimum Education:

  • BA or equivalent experience required.

  • Successful, 2–4 years track record within procurement and supply chain management

  • Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM), Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM) or similar certification desirable

  • A Project Management Professional (PMP) or similar certification is desirable.

Minimum Education/Training Required:

  • 2-4 years of Engineering and/or Procurement and /or deep Category experience.

  • Strong functional experience preferably with the knowledge of mechanical engineering skills.

  • Strong project management skills.

  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal)

  • Strong interdisciplinary, intercultural, influence, and networking skills

  • International experience

  • Deep knowledge of category technologies and products.

  • Strong negotiating skills

The base pay for this position is $57,300.00 – $114,700.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
