Responsible for the research, design, development, test, and oversight of the manufacturing and installation of microprocessor-based control systems, motor drives, power supplies, and testing equipment. Able to apply engineering standards, techniques, and procedures in the development and testing of climate control systems in weight and performance-critical environments. Must be comfortable with schematic capture and PCB layout. Must be able to generate clear technical reports and have excellent verbal communication skills. Candidate will interface with OEM personnel and be comfortable in a dynamic team environment.

  • Knowledge/understanding of working in a regulated environment. Aviation regulation and certification processes experience is a plus.

  • Design and test various levels of printed circuit board assemblies.

  • Analyze and diagnose low level analog/digital circuit design schematics.

  • Familiarity with hardware/firmware design and the use of communication peripherals such as I2C, UART, SPI, and CANbus.

  • Understanding of power supply design principles and architectures.

  • Familiarity with circuit analysis and conduct ripple voltage, ripple current, and inrush current testing.

  • Strong understanding of noise-optimized hardware/PCB design.

  • Development of files necessary for PCB production.

  • Development of power electronics such as input switches and motor controls.

  • Design high quality test fixtures and boxes to support the efficient and accurate manufacture of products.

  • Perform electronic test automation efforts.

  • Develop cost-effective and high quality solutions for customer-driven enhancements/options to current products.

  • Advanced working knowledge of full suite of hardware engineering design software such as OrCAD, Altium, Eagle, etc.

  • Technically evaluate and select electrical hardware components. Familiarity with motor controller hardware and microcontrollers is a plus.

  • Generate comprehensive test plans and reports.

  • Competently populate complex components on PCB assemblies.

  • Ability to assist in some firmware and software development efforts.

  • Perform EMI testing and documentation of test results. Ability to analyze the EMI characteristics of the product.

  • Simulation of EMI filters.

  • Performs detailed analysis of designs including system performance.

  • Assist in the generation of regulatory compliance paperwork.

  • Support the generation of design review material including presentation of design concepts.

  • Applies Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) to design work.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or other applicable Engineering discipline from an accredited college or university.

  • Minimum 3 years of relevant engineering experience.

  • Strong knowledge of PCB schematic capture and layout software.

  • Some experience in firmware or software development.

  • Some experience in control systems tuning or design.

  • Minimal international and domestic travel may be required (must have current passport).

Desired/Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in aviation industry.

  • Experience in DO-160/DO-178 and MIL-STD-810 testing and qualification.

  • Experience with OrCAD design software.

  • Experience with C/C++ firmware design.

  • Experience with Microsoft Visual Studio C# and WPF.

  • Experience with power electronics design.
