Fixed Income, Currency, and Commodities (FICC) Technology plays a key role in the firm’sability to help institutional clients buy and sell financial instruments on liquidity venuesaround the world, an important revenue driver for the firm. In FICC Technology we use both open source industry standard and internal proprietary technologies to build cutting edge platforms for pricing, execution, and control over each of these millions of transactions.

The Bolt-Web Engineering team in the FICC Division is seeking an Associate to join the team as a DevOps Engineer. The BoltWeb team owns a strategic platform for pricing and trading derivative products. This global platform is used by many business units in FICC (FX, Commodities, Interest Rates) to make markets for our clients on a daily basis.As a DevOps Engineer you will be working closely with service development teams to help them as they migrate their Java and JavaScript services to be cloud native, reducing coupling and increasing release cadence - safely. You will be integrating and customising open-source tools into our Kubernetes runtime and our Gitlab, git and Docker based SDLC. You will be writing custom tools where absolutely necessary in Java, JavaScript, Bash and Golang. You will become an advocate for SRE practises in our team, and we will help you develop in this area. As you gain experience and exposure to the specific needs of the Bolt Web services teams, you will help to curate and disseminate best practises in terms of patterns of service networking, state-management, configuration-management, health, monitoring and alerting. You will play a role in runtime support, helping to diagnose issues in the runtime environment, and then via post-mortems help to introduce long term fixes in process, practises and tools. As part of a new function working in a product area with wide usage, and continued rapid adoption, there is plenty of opportunity to deliver value and gain exposure across the FICC Division.



• Design, Develop and Maintain SDLC and runtime services and tools.

• Become an SRE Champion, SDLC and Kubernetes runtime expert on the team and share this expertise.

• Help to define and improve runtime / SRE related OKRs such as improving service elasticity, resiliency and recovery times.

• Help to define and improve SDLC / Continuous Delivery OKRs such as increasing release cadence and reducing incident rates


• Honour’s degree in STEM subject

• Demonstrable programming expertise in at least 1 language ( equating to roughly 3+ years’ experience )

• 2+ years working on Docker based services running in a cloud environment

• Great communication skills – as daily coordination with our global team is essential.

Preferred Qualifications

• Desired, not required!

• Experience with configuring monitoring and alerting solutions ( e.g. Prometheus, PagerDuty )

• Experience with configuring service mesh solutions (e.g. Itsio )

• Experience with Kubernetes networking configuration ( e.g. Contour / Envoy )

• Experience with infra as code (e.g. Terraform / Kustomize )

• Exposure to large scale SOA Java deployment

• Exposure to Kafka, Elastic Search

• Experience in Continuous Delivery / DevOps / agile methodologies

• Familiarity with Linux bash scripting
