You will use your expertise to:

  • Improve plant safety through best-in-class engineering practices that are aligned with our ‘Journey to Zero'

  • Develop and apply technical knowledge to identify, evaluate and implement process optimization opportunities to achieve refinery production strategic goals and objectives

  • Lead early stage development of process capital projects and provide effective collaboration/support, detailed design, construction, commissioning and startup

  • Benchmark unit performance, assess catalyst performance and replacement requirements, as well as, evaluate potential new catalyst technologies to capture future yield, energy or cost benefits

  • Propose continuous improvement ideas and influence decision-makers to approve implementation opportunities

  • Participate and provide input to the Suncor Community of Practice (CoP), tasked with aligning improvement programs across Suncor

  • Learn and gain experience with refinery unit operations and equipment including distillation towers, fired heaters and boilers; Piping systems, reactors, pumps and compressors; and Instrumentation and electrical

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • A Chemical Engineering degree from an accredited university

  • Eligibility for registration with APEGA

  • Alignment with ourvaluesof: safety above all else, respect, raise the bar, commitments matter and do the right thing

Preference for:

  • Industry experience

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Excellent social and communication skills (both verbal and written)

  • The desire for continuous learning

  • The proven ability to work in a multidisciplinary, integrated team environment

  • Exceptional motivation and you are a self-starter who possesses strong social skills, and you’re able to contribute effectively in a team environment

  • Strong integrity and you hold others accountable and expect others to do the same

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other meaningful information:

  • You will work out of our Edmonton refinery in Sherwood Park, located at 801 Petroleum Way

  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday, with the potential for extended work hours based on business needs
