New York University Path1 - Research Assistant: Developmental Toxicology, Genetics and Genomics - Sadler Edepli Laboratory in United States

Embryonic development requires a robust response to environmental stress. Toxicants in the environment can alter directly alter the developmental program and can have sustained effects over the lifetime of the animal. Our work in this area uses zebrafish and mice as whole animal models and we use genomics in all aspects of the work. This research assistant position in the Sadler (Edepli) laboratory will provide technical and project management support to research projects focused on the stress response in embryos and long term impact of toxicant exposures using animal models. This project involves both classical genetics and environmental toxicology approaches in zebrafish embryos and a strong molecular biology knowledge base to enable generation of zebrafish mutants using CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing.

We seek a highly motivated researcher who is proactive, dedicated and curious about biology and has the talent to communicate research findings in a compelling fashion. The successful candidate will have a strong educational foundation in cell and developmental biology, genetics and have a capacity to carry out bioinformatics analysis of genomics datasets as well as the demonstrated ability to provide technical support to other team members. Our lab carries out team-based science and a research assistant will be embedded in a dynamic and ambitious team of post-doctoral fellows, research scientists and students with the role of supporting and advancing the project goals in this fast paced environment. A strong work ethic, high degree of organization, initiative and the ability to manage multiple tasks each day are essential with enthusiasm and intellectual curiosity about biology among the most important qualities.


  • Carry out genetic and molecular biology experiments using zebrafish embryos exposed to toxicants and collect samples for genomics analysis

  • RNAseq analysis from animals exposed to toxicants

  • Routine zebrafish and mouse husbandry

  • Laboratory maintenance and project management including lab organization, ordering reagents and organizational tasks

Essential qualifications

  • BS/MSc in biology or related disciplines

  • Course work in genetics, developmental and cell biology

  • Familiarity with genomics approaches

  • Research lab experience

  • Ability to work with zebrafish and mice

  • Highly organized, dedicated and mission focused

  • Outstanding communication skills in English (written and oral)
