Are you a dynamic individual who can bring a passion for wine, energy, and a refined palate to our team? E. & J. Gallo Winery is seeking an Enologist to join our family, working with a team of Winemakers to process all wine varieties and brands. You will be based in Modesto and responsible for managing and caring for wines vinted at our Central Valley production wineries. There is also potential travel to those wineries to help influence how the wine is made for our brands at those sites.
What You Will Do
Review wine analysis, tank top inspection reports; communicate out-of-specification wines to winemakers
Support the wine production processes across all wine varieties and brands
Perform winemaking trials, experiments, and wine processing operations and report out to winemakers
Oversee wine programs under Winemaker guidance
Participate in daily tastings
Partner with production and planning personnel to coordinate work order derivation and execution
Function as liaison between winemaking and production
Participate on cross-functional and interdepartmental teams to accomplish project goals
What You Need
Bachelor's degree in Enology, Winemaking, Viticulture, Fermentation Science, Plant Science, Food Science, Biology, Chemistry, Microbiology, Geology, Physics, Biological Engineering or Chemical Engineering, or a high school diploma or State-issued equivalency certificate PLUS 4 years of enology, winemaking, viticulture or, chemistry experience reflecting increasing levels of responsibility.
Candidates for this position must have a valid driver’s license and safe driving record. Required to obtain a California driver’s license or appropriate state driver’s license within 30 days of hire.
Required to lift and move product and equipment that weighs up to 45 pounds.
Required to possess vision necessary to judge wine and brandy color.
Skilled in the use of MS Word and MS Excel at a basic level.
What Will Set You Apart
Bachelor's degree in Enology, Winemaking, Viticulture, Fermentation Science, Plant Science, Food Science, Biology, Chemistry, Microbiology, Biological Engineering or Chemical Engineering plus 2 years of enology, winemaking, viticulture, or chemistry experience reflecting increasing levels of responsibility.
Completion of one grape harvest; experience with grape crushing and the production winemaking processes.
Knowledge of fundamental of wine chemistry, viticulture practices and grape varieties.
