Meta Director of Public Policy, Greater China Region in Hong Kong

Summary:

Meta is seeking a strategic leader for our Greater China Public Policy team. The role requires significant experience either working with or in government, politics or a regulatory agency, with a deep knowledge of the political and regulatory dynamics in the region as well as the ability to grasp complex technical and policy issues related to the Internet and new technologies. In this role, you will lead the team and work closely with colleagues in legal, comms, marketing and others across the business and the globe, as part of the Policy leadership team for the APAC region. You will manage strategic outreach and policy campaigns, and engage with trade associations and third party groups to explain our position on key policy issues. You have a strong local network, outstanding judgment and persuasive skills, creativity and the ability to work in a dynamic environment. Additionally, you also have excellent writing and analytical skills combined with a passion for our mission, emerging technologies and policy work.The Director of Public Policy, Greater China Region will have overall responsibility for our relationships with policy makers and officials in this region. This position will be based in Hong Kong and requires willingness to travel frequently.

Required Skills:

Director of Public Policy, Greater China Region Responsibilities:

  1. Identify, monitor and analyze policy issues that interest the company in the Greater China region, and identify proactive strategies to solve policy challenges

  2. Engage and build relationships with policymakers and other external stakeholders, represent the company in meetings with external stakeholders and communicate our positions at public events to advance the company’s policy priorities

  3. Lead a lean regional team, and be a key member of the APAC Public Policy leadership team

  4. Design and lead innovative regional programs and campaigns to shape the public and political climate of opinion around the company

  5. Work with the global team to develop the company’s policy positions in briefing papers, consultation responses, internal and external meetings, and other settings

  6. Advise company leadership and relevant cross-functional teams on regional public policy matters to guide development of products, services and policies

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Experience and appreciation of market nuances in managing policy issues in the Greater China region

  2. 15+ years of demonstrated experience managing legislation and/or government relations and advocacy work, managing complex public policy issues, policy campaigns and strategic outreach with a diverse set of stakeholders within policy advocacy

  3. Proven track record of collaborative approach to problem solving, experience building internal relationships and operating effectively with cross-functional partners, experience advising teams and senior executives on policy matters

  4. Experience in people management, characterised by culture of inclusion

  5. Ability to communicate and present effectively to diverse audience

  6. Fluency in English and Mandarin are required as this role will collaborate with external stakeholders whose usual business language is in English and Mandarin
