Working at our Vandalia Facilities:

Our Vandalia facility is located 50 minutes north of the GE Aerospace headquarters and sits just north of the city of Dayton—known widely as the birthplace of aviation—where the Wright Brothers built the world’s first aircraft in their bicycle shop in the heart of downtown Dayton. This business boasts a rich history, in operation for over 100 years. At over 140,000 square feet, the Vandalia facility rests on 25 acres right off Interstate 75.

At GE Aerospace in Vandalia, we specialize in manufacturing and servicing world-class power generation and electrical control and distribution equipment for a variety of military and commercial customers. Vandalia is also home to a product development lab where operators and engineers work together to invent the future of flight.

Role Overview

The Product Development Lab (PDL) Coach manages the daily operation for manufacturing generators & convertors for a variety of customer orders with an hourly workforce of 12+ build associates. This department is unique in that it requires the ability to lead and facilitate cross functional teams of engineers, quality professionals, and material specialists to achieve product quality, cost, and output metrics.

The PDL develops all New Product Introduction (NPI) which allows for the active and ongoing maturation of programs. As such, coaches must exhibit specific knowledge of NPI launching and strong, practical problem-solving skills, as well as station readiness and workforce development. Due to the multifaceted nature of the department, coaches must have strong backgrounds in operations, conflict resolution, and material management.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Oversight and management of hourly direct reports consisting of approximately 12+ build specialists.

  • Pay and time keeping.

  • Prioritization of work.

  • Drive continuous improvement activities for the team.

  • Provide mentorship and coaching to subordinates and peers alike.

  • Focus on tactical goals while not losing sight of strategic priorities.

  • Develop strategies to achieve deliveries.

  • Manage labor capacity and hire as workflow and orders dictate.

  • Maintain training certifications and ISO audit certifications.

  • Develop solutions within a “Lean” culture and team setting to achieve organizational goals.

  • Engage peers and workforce to develop projects that impact the productivity of the team.

  • Must be able to work cross functionally with other business leaders to manage work in process inventories, customer priorities while achieving business metrics.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college (or a high school diploma / GED with at least 7 years of experience in Manufacturing)

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in Manufacturing

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience leading people

  • This role requires use of technical data subject to U.S. Government contract restrictions and this posting is only for U.S. Citizens. GE will require proof of status prior to employment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Developed interpersonal and leadership skills.

  • Ability to work independently.

  • Experience in Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen, and/or Continuous Improvement problem solving.

  • Engineering or materials background.

  • Experience in assembly and/or machining environments.

  • Experience in launching new products to manufacturing.
