REPORTS TO: Director, Routing and Scheduling Supervisor, and Team Leader QUALIFICATIONS: 1. High school diploma or GED 2. Ability to read, write, and understand the English language 3. Demonstrates interest in and aptitude for work to be performed 4. Ability to grow professionally 5. Desire and ability to work with students, staff and other bus drivers 6. Current Commercial Drivers License and bus driver certification 7. Negative mandatory OTETA test 8. Pass mandatory TEA/DOT physical 9. Acceptable driving/criminal history PRIMARY PURPOSE: Provide safe, efficient transportation for assigned riders. Complete and submit all reports necessary for department records and assist in accomplishing department goals TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Noncontractual (At-will), Manual Trades Pay Grade 3 183 days, estimated 4 hours daily, Wage/Hour status: Nonexempt MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES 1. Obeys all traffic laws, driving and safety regulations. 2. Keeps assigned school bus clean and free of graffiti, by sweeping daily and washing the bus at least once per month. 3. Drivesin a friendly manner toward other vehicles and pedestrian traffic. 4. Usesload lights and stop arm for loading and unloading purposes only; does not cause traffic to stack up behind the bus during stops. 5. Takes a personal interest in each student and knowsthem by name. 6. Abides by department policy on student management procedures. 7. Establishes busstops with regard to studentsafety and convenience. 8. Follows proper loading and unloading procedures. 9. Treats all students fairly and without regard to race, creed, or status. 10. Makesjudiciousseating assignments and enforcesthem through proper reporting procedures. 11. Reportsrider infractions promptly and accurately to Student Management Coordinator. 12. Courteous and projects positive image to parents/guardian. 13. Respects other school personnels duties and responsibilities. 14. Projects a positive image at all times when communicating with students, other drivers, and school personnel. 15. Is courteous and responsive on the radio. 16. Conducts pre-trip inspections daily; reports mechanical defects and keepsfuel, oil, coolant, and tire pressure at the proper levels. 17. Followsthe authorized route description and time schedule. 18. Notifiesthe garage of mechanical breakdowns and remains with the bus until relief arrives. 19. Transports only authorized students and observe the two mile limits. 20. Isfriendly and helpful toward trip sponsor and riders. 21. Complies with directions and instructionsfrom supervisor and performs other tasks and assumessuch responsibilities as related to the position and assigned. 22. Maintains positive and cooperative working relationships with colleagues and othersin the conduct of district business and demonstratesteam work in daily activities. 23. Is prompt, timely, and thorough in completing assignments and attending to details accurately and efficiently. 24. Meets attendance standards and complies with notification proceduresfor absences. 25. Provides complete and accurate information in the conduct of district business. 26. Maintains confidentiality in the conduct of district business. 27. Complies with district policies, as well as state and federal laws and regulations. EQUIPMENT USED: Usesradio communication equipment and operates school bus. WORKING CONDITIONS: Mental Demands: Reading; ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); maintain emotional control under stress; ability to maintain effective control over groups of students. Physical Demands: Clearspeech; ability to drive school bus; repetitive hand motions; early shift work. Continual sitting and reaching. Ability to operate motor vehicle. Work outside and inside; moderate exposure to extreme temperatures (hot) and vehicle fumes.
