Purpose :

Contributes to the overall success of the GWO Confirmations - ETD team globally ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives. Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.

The ETD operations team is responsible for supporting the clearing and settlement of global futures and options on futures traded by the various business lines within Scotiabank. The main objective is maintaining the official clearing book of record for futures products and supporting the full trade life cycle.

Responsibilities include:

  • Trade capture and processing

  • Trade, position, and cash reconciliation

  • Collateral management

What You’ll Do :

  • Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.

  • Ensures the team’s assigned responsibilities are executed and completed within prescribed deadlines across numerous workstations and engages in root cause analysis to determine if mitigating processes are possible.

  • Provides insight and support to management during planning, organizing and successful implementation of projects affecting the unit’s operations.

  • Pro-actively supports management efforts to monitor group activity to ensure internal control procedures remain effective, are understood and adhered to.

  • Supports management efforts to motivate staff, increase individual performances, execute a robust training schedule and assign workstation responsibilities fairly.

  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.

  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Guidelines for Business Conduct.

  • Champions a high-performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment; communicating vison/values/business strategy and managing succession and development planning for the team.

What You’ll Bring :

  • 3-5 years minimum Exchange Traded Derivatives experience (or similar capital markets asset class) – with a global perspective preferred

  • Knowledge of capital markets’ regulatory framework, market practices, and clearing house policies and procedures – knowledge of US ETD Regulations a plus

  • Understanding of accounting principles and practices related to Exchange Traded Derivatives – or equivalent asset class

  • Experience with at least one of the Capital Market major asset platforms from a “Books and Records” perspective – GMI, RISC, XTP, ADP, Broadridge, etc.

  • Knowledge of Derivative Exchange clearing applications such as CME Group’s FEC, ICE’s ECS/FEC, CDCC TMS & SOLA a plus – or equivalent systems

  • Ability to promote and maintain a strong team environment and working relationships within the group and with other partner areas

  • Demonstration of strong organizational skills in planning, scheduling, and prioritizing one’s workload

  • Strong analytical skills with a proven ability to evaluate options/alternatives and proposing recommendations for complex and multi-dimensional problems/issues

  • University degree in finance, economics, or business

  • CSC Securities coursework / secondary studies completion considered an asset

  • Strong communications skills. Able to communicate professionally both verbally and written. Must be able to communicate confidently with leaders and external teams.

  • Experience with Reconciliation and working with large data sets; this includes being able to have strong analytical skills and able to work well on Excel and Power BI

  • Proficient Excel skills; preferred experience with creating and using Macros, Pivot tables and V loop up

  • Industry exposure through one of the following would be an asset: Canadian Securities Course (CSC), Derivatives Fundamentals Course (DFC), Futures Licensing Course (FLC), CFA Level 1 or higher

Work Arrangement:
