Health and Safety Specialist is responsible for the development, implementation and

sustainment of HSS programs to ensure the safety, health, and security of

employees, visitors, and contractors for assigned locations. Works with

Business Unit management, site leaders, HR Management and others to ensure

sustainable HSS performance. Implements HSS standards, provides technical

assistance on issues and partners with the business on compliance, project

management and HSS management issues. Develops predictive risk analysis program

to identify critical risk and provides preventative actions to mitigate

potential risk. Deploys safety, security, and industrial hygiene processes

which demonstrate continuous improvement in HSS stewardship directed toward

preventing accidents, eliminating safety and security hazards. Supports the

development of an organization that delivers HSS excellence and compliance

programs and standards through the program defining, training, and

implementation stages, ensuring that all functions own and have the tools

required to implement.


Core Responsibilities

  • BS Degree in Occupational Health and Safetyor Mechanical/Chemical/Civil/Environmental Engineering or equivalent

  • 3-5 years in HSS compliance.

  • Construction project HSSoversight.

  • Incident Investigation/Root CauseAnalysis

  • Working knowledge of operationalaspects of Water and Wastewater industry would be an advantage.

SpecialSkills/Abilities Needed:

  • Ability to challenge and debateissues of importance to the organization with diplomacy

  • Effective soft skills incommunicating effectively with all levels of management and employees

  • Working knowledge of federalhealth and safety (OSHA), and security (DHS) and corresponding Stateregulations.

  • Excellent verbal and writtencommunication skills

  • Strong leadership, communication,technical and presentation skills required

  • Proficient in use of MicrosoftOffice (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, Skype for Business, etc.)

  • Effective in Influencing changeacross functional and demographic boundaries

  • Ability to delegate and managemultiple responsibilities effectively

  • Experience in leading continuousimprovement activities and programs leveraging processes, tools, and bestpractices

  • Experience in managing culturalchange across an organization utilizing multiple approaches to helpemployees adopt and implement sustained change

  • Budget, cost management,strategic planning and leadership experience

  • Related post education training,certifications such as CSP, CIH, CPEA, or CHMM preferred

  • Previousexperience with security regulations and systems
