IHS Markit Upstream Asset Valuation Analyst in Tetbury, United Kingdom

Overview

IHS Markit provides robust online well to asset valuation platforms and comprehensive data that allows the financial industry and oil companies to create custom analysis of historical oil and gas well performance; forecasts of production; and costs and economics. Analysts, strategic planners, financial investors, exploration managers use our interactive tools to create portfolio comparisons, screen assets and create detailed analysis of companies or regions.

Role summary

We have an opportunity for an Upstream Asset Valuation Analyst to join the Middle East regional team based in Tetbury. You will predominantly be responsible for the production, cost and economic modelling of oil and gas projects across the region.

You will work on the expanding Vantage product. Vantage provides detailed discounted cash flow (DCF) valuation analysis for upstream oil and gas assets in a powerful online platform. Leveraging the same proprietary IHS Markit exploration and production data and industry intelligence used by geology teams, Vantage values assets through engineered workflows, for both conventional and unconventional global assets with forward-looking production.

What will you be doing?

  • Work within a team of geologists, economists and engineers focusing on the analysis of the upstream aspects of oil and gas developments in the Middle East region

  • Carry out independent research integrating findings with internal sources and leveraging own technical knowledge and understanding of market dynamics in the region to build consistent and insightful asset analysis

  • Using solid understanding of the upstream oil and gas sector including resource development, cost estimating, midstream infrastructure and demand/supply

  • Research gathering, reserve estimation, production forecasting, field development planning, cost estimation and oil and gas pricing

  • Perform detailed research and critically assess and capture field/company/country data from various sources

  • Ensure data validity, consistency and alignment with internal and external benchmarks where possible through the application of rigorous quality control and assurance processes

  • Effectively prioritise competing requests for limited resources to deliver content, respond to stakeholders and support commercial activities

About you

  • Minimum BSc in Geology, engineering or economics or a science-based industry

  • 2+ years’ experience in an operating company or as an upstream researcher/analyst for a research or consulting firm highly desirable

  • Knowledge of petroleum geology, discounted cash flow models, petroleum economics and relevant software (e. g. cost estimation, VBA, MS Access) all advantageous

  • Highly analytical with quantitative skills and the ability to critically review inputs, calculations and outputs and comfortable working with large datasets

  • Self-motivated and approaches work with enthusiasm

  • Able to work collaboratively, as part of a team as well as carry out independent research

  • The ability and confidence to communicate ideas and present your own work in a clear structured way as part of the role has direct and indirect client interaction
