Job Overview:

APTIM Tampa Office is seeking an energetic Environmental Technician to join our team of engineers, scientists, and technicians who are passionately committed to safely solving our clients' environmental concerns. The qualified candidate will be a hands-on individual who is dedicated to completing projects with precision and accuracy, both in terms of physical duties and documentation. The Environmental Technician position will provide field support for a range of environmental and infrastructure projects funded by private and government clients. The individual will perform a variety of environmental activities for planning, oversight, and execution of environmental work generally related to environmental assessment, remediation, and infrastructure projects. The work mix is expected to be 90% field and 10% office.

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

  • Provides technical support to project managers during the execution of a variety of work scopes including, but not limited to, environmental site characterization, monitoring, inspections, Phase I and Phase II due diligence, and construction projects.

  • Completes field soil and groundwater assessments and collects soil, groundwater, and air samples for laboratory analysis.

  • Completes remedial system operation and maintenance/monitoring activities.

  • Oversee environmental subcontractors for a variety of work including drilling, excavation, surveying, etc.

  • Support industrial hygiene type projects including inspections, assessment and sampling for asbestos, lead-based paint, indoor air, and other materials/chemicals Support and respond to emergency response activities for clients related to spills and releases of regulated chemicals.

  • Work with project managers to assure all field activities related to environmental projects is successfully completed.

  • Conducts work independently or as part of a project team and can adapt to rapidly changing site conditions or client requirements.

  • Adheres to established health and safety policies and procedures and executes work in a safe and conscientious manner.

  • Manages schedule and balances multiple priorities to meet project targets and timelines.

Basic Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or Bachelor of Science degree.

  • 1 - 5 years work experience with construction, project field work, or environmental field work.

  • Valid driver's license and acceptable violation history. Must be able to safely operate a company vehicle.

  • Understanding of electronic type field equipment and or equipment calibration.

  • Understanding of mathematics related to completion of area, volume, and percentage calculations.

  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.

  • Physical work the ability to lift 40 pounds will be required.

  • Overnight travel, some overtime and weekend work may be required periodically.

  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Excellent time management skills and ability to manage multiple activities on an on-going basis by given deadline.

  • Electrical understand and/or mechanical skills is a plus.

The following certifications are a plus:

  • 40-hour OSHA-HAZWOPER training, Licensed Asbestos Inspector; Asbestos Project Monitor; Lead Inspector/Risk Assessor, Indoor Air Quality Training.
