POSITION SUMMARY:

  • Provides and documents initial psychiatric assessments with patients, including diagnostic formulation, plan of care, and medication recommendations.

  • Provides and documents follow-up medication evaluation and management appointments with scheduled patients.

  • Provides and documents psychiatric consultation assessments with patients referred by their Primary Care Physicians.

  • Reviews patient records (i.e. prior assessments, labs) as needed.

  • Orders laboratory tests as needed in their routine care of patients.

  • Provides patients with prescription medications as appropriate in their treatment of behavioral health symptoms.

  • Collaborates with other team members as needed in the care of patients (i.e. therapist, psychiatrist, RN).

  • Attends scheduled Medical Provider meetings/Team Meetings regularly.

  • Attends supervisory meetings with psychiatrist on a regular basis.

  • Opportunities to provide educational training/shadowing experiences to potential NPP student interns.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE:

Current New York State RN license; experience in pertinent areas of nursing practice, graduate of accredited Nurse Practitioner

program, Master’s Degree in Nursing preferred, clinical affiliate of medical staff, National certification as Nurse Practitioner or active

pursuit within one year.

Participates in orientation and continuing education and updates and maintains knowledge and skills related to specific areas of

expertise.

SPECIAL EQUIPMENT, SKILLS OR OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Exam equipment pertinent to practice area, advanced skills in health history taking and physical assessment, skills in evaluating

laboratory data, EKG and CXR interpretation, skills in assessing, planning and implementing a plan of care for specific patients and

families, while collaborating with nursing staff, physicians and ancillary staff, practice protocols as designated in agreement with

supervising/collaborating physician.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND HAZARDS:

Clinical setting – Exposure Class I –routine or potential exposure to blood, body fluids, excretions or secretions.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Medium work – must be able to lift, bend, stoop, push and pull.

WORK CONTACT GROUP:

All services, employees, medical staff, patients, visitors, vendors and various regulatory and professional agencies.
