Stony Brook Medicine (Stony Brook University Hospital) Manager Lab IT in Stony Brook, New York
Position SummaryAt Stony Brook Medicine, a Supervising Programmer Analyst is a valuable member of our Lab IT Team, and will ultimately supervise and manage several teams within Lab IT such as Pathology, Blood Bank and Clinical Lab systems. The candidate will be responsible for the overall support, performance, and stability of the Laboratory systems and their integrations. Candidate will also oversee Lab IT projects. Candidate will make recommendations for improvement of system support, workflows and integrations. The incumbent may be involved with supporting the systems, and may be assigned to projects as part of a technical build or testing resource. Multitasking skills are a must. Qualified candidates will demonstrate superior communication and organizational skills while adhering to our high standard of excellence.Duties of a Manager Lab IT may include the following but are not limited to:- Provide strong leadership and direction to the Lab IT team; coach and counsel staff as needed.- Oversee support of all Lab applications, including Clinisys/Sunquest LIS, CoPath and its downstream/integrated systems (including Voicebrook voice recognition system, Ventana Vantage Tracking System for Pathology, Leica Aperio eSlideManager for digital pathology; mTuitive for synoptic reporting) ; Wellsky Transfusion and Blood Centers; and the RALS Point of Care system.- Oversee the support of all Laboratory system servers. Ensure they are running efficiently and with maximum uptime.- Oversee the installation and support of Laboratory/Blood Bank workstation hardware. This includes but is not limited to point of care instrumentation configurations and validations; workstations and server application troubleshooting.- Oversee the creation and maintenance of custom reports requested by the Lab, Blood Bank or IT staff.- Ensure that all regulatory requirements are met.- Prioritize and delegate work and projects to meet organizational and departmental needs.- Ensure the team is cross trained.- Coordinate staff to provide continuous system support and coverage. This includes oncall scheduling, upgrades, and other initiatives that may require off-hour participation.- Oversee, coordinate and support Lab IT system upgrades and implementations. Develop or manage detailed project plans, testing, training and conversion plans. Ensure documentation is maintained. Play an active role as a technical expert during all phases of projects. Monitor the projects continually for maintaining the timeline and the overall quality of the project. Escalate and update leadership on issues that may impact go live.- Participate in strategic planning, act as the project manager monitoring project progress and issue resolution.- Responsible for building a team environment with good communication; includes regular updates and necessary escalations to leadership.- Maintain and work toward improved relations with our Laboratory vendors. Ensure that vendors are given feedback and held accountable for timely issue response and escalation.- Contribute to the long and short-range planning for the Deparment of Laboratories.- Responsible for Capital Planning for Lab IT.- Develop knowledge in industry standards and new technologies. Evaluate and make technical recommendations.- Evaluate new systems and integrations, this includes system design issues, technical and infrastructure requirements.- Participate in a 24x7 oncall rotation.- Represent, or provide suitable Lab IT representation to, SB work committees and project teams.- Serve as a liaison with Hospital IT. Ensure that all new systems meet applicable security requirements.- Follows all Hospital IT policies, procedures, and guidelines, and ensures that reporting staff do the same.Qualifications*Required Qualifications:- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, information systems, or related field.- 5 years' experience in an IT leadership position in a Healthcare environment- Strong background in designing, developing, testing and implementing a full project life cycle.- System integration experience.- Experience with vendor management.- Must be detail oriented and have strong analytical and organizational skills.- Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to work well in a team environment are essential.Preferred Qualifications:- Prior or current experience with SB laboratory systems; such as Clinisys Sunquest LIS, Clinisys Copath, and WellSky Transfusion.- Experience with Blood Bank IT support.- Supervisory experience.- Project management experience.- Experience with IT infrastructure, and Operating Systems- *Proven experience with Lab or Blood Bank Automation integration, implementation, upgrades and validation, preferably with Sunquest or Wellsky Blood Bank LIS.- Experience with Cerner Millenium EMR.Special Notes: Resume/CV should be included with the online application.Posting Overview:* This position will remain posted until filled or for a maximum of 90 days.
