Optum Data Analyst - Finance in St. Petersburg, Florida

OVERVIEW OF POSITION:

The Financial Data Analyst will assist the Inpatient and Pharmacy Departments to ensure the quality of financial data used in management decisions, analyze medical and financial data, document and perform controls, and other varying assigned tasks.

Create and manage KPIs and metrics to help guide strategic/JOC discussions around care delivery, contracting, etc. within the acute care space. Help to maintain existing and build new quality programs for employed hospitalist team and contracted hospitalist teams. Develop internal database with medical economics team to augment current hospital/hospital system pharmacy dashboards to include, but not limited to:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Represents the Company in a professional manner, following all Company policies and procedures.

  • Uses, protects, and discloses patients’ protected health information (PHI) only in accordance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) standards.

  • Assist the Inpatient and Pharmacy departments in the reporting of periodic metrics/deliverables:

  • Create and manage KPIs and metrics to help guide strategic/JOCs around care delivery, contracting, etc. within the acute care space.

  • Help to maintain existing and build new quality programs for employed hospitalist teams and contracted hospitalist teams.

  • Develop internal database with medical economics teams to augment current hospital/hospital system and pharmacy dashboards

  • Maintain internal reporting metrics and tracking mechanisms

  • Track, assess, and report the status of cross functional projects related to inpatient and pharmacy initiatives

  • Create and prepare ad-hoc reports and analyses as necessary

  • Works independently with external business units and departments to ensure an understanding of downstream implications to external and internal reporting

  • Assists the management team in identifying more efficient methods to improve processes

  • Exhibits a high level of self-accountability and proactive awareness in regard to developing trends in data needs that could result in risks, or opportunities, for the organization

  • Always maintains the appropriate level of privacy and confidentiality in accordance with Corporate policy guidelines, HIPAA, SOX, and any other regulatory guidelines as applicable

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college in Accounting, Finance, or Management Information Systems.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum: 2+ Years of Accounting, IT Audit, Financial Analysis, or related experience

  • Preferred: Prior managed care, healthcare, and/or health insurance experience.

  • Preferred: Experience with SQL and Dashboard

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

  • Ability to communicate effectively across all departments at varying levels of the organization

  • Demonstrates knowledge of software applications supporting FP&A, accounting, and other finance functions

  • General knowledge of hospital reimbursement and cost structure

  • Ability to quickly understand terminology, complex processes, and the suite of reporting applications that support financial and operational decision making

  • High Level Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Access is required

  • Strong knowledge of other Microsoft applications including Word, Visio, PowerPoint, and Outlook

  • Strong attention to detail on all work performed

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to work independently and use independent judgment

  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language fluently.
