The Position

The Portfolio Access and Reimbursement (PAR) Strategy team within Access and Pricing Strategy (APS) delivers actionable insights around access-related trends impacting Genentech’s portfolio for MCCO and Commercial, Medical, Government Affairs (CMG).

The team contributes, advises, and influences MCCO and squad decision-making by providing the enterprise-mindset and proactive perspectives on managed care trends and issues for the portfolio; drives CMG integration of access insights into strategic and operational planning; synthesizes customer feedback and internal lessons learned to catalyze better business outcomes.

This leader and team are positioned to be a critical decision support team by providing objective advice for above-squad business decisions by working closely with the MCCO Leadership Team, APS LT, APS teams, Account Managers, Access Partners, and the Squads. PAR is designed to be the group where all of the portfolio access thinking comes together, and to provide objective recommendations regarding financial trade-offs across 20+ products across the $20+ Billion GNE portfolio. And, when warranted, Portfolio Marketing resources/initiatives may emanate from PAR depending on the scenario and need.

  • Voice and perspective of portfolio strategy - a single, aligned, dynamic, non-theoretical perspective on prioritized key current and future portfolio access needs

  • Actionable synthesis of real-time access trends, marketing intelligence, and organizational lessons learned

  • Highest-priority portfolio marketing deliverables emanating directly from portfolio strategy

  • A dynamic, non-academic perspective of access-related cross-portfolio priorities to inform better decision making for execution teams

In this position, the PAR Lead will :

  • Lead, manage and develop direct reports and, where applicable, ensure appropriate management of your indirect reports

  • Enable Genentech to stay ahead of access marketplace dynamics and other developments, as these pertain to patient access and reimbursement

  • Synthesize learnings, both across marketplace and internal organizational efforts, to allow for better decision making and business outcomes

  • Oversee, guide and drive innovative access-related insights for our pipeline and marketed products

  • Ensure timely and targeted managed care landscape surveillance and research to identify important trends or other activities

  • Make strategic investments in portfolio marketing initiatives / resources for organized customers based on highest-priority business impact

  • Build relationships with all relevant internal partners and stakeholders, including Government Affairs

  • Work with Genentech executives to transfer and leverage learning across brands and business segments

  • Align, motivate and inspire your team to work in accordance with broader Roche, Genentech, Commercial Operations and Managed Care & Customer Operations strategies and goals

In this position, you will need to leverage the following competencies:

  • Strategic Agility: Provide ongoing strategic insights and consultation to across CMG by leaning into future business needs and helping prepar the organization accordingly.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree (business, finance or life sciences discipline is preferred)

  • MBA other related Graduate-level Degree is preferred

  • 8 or more years' work experience in functions such as health economics, portfolio analytics, marketing, market research, strategic planning, finance and/or other related fields in the pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry

  • 4 or more years’ experience designing and executing business strategies in the pharmaceutical industry or related healthcare environment

  • 2 or more years’ people management experience

  • Experience effectively leading cross-functional strategy development teams

  • Experience leading larger-scale departmental planning processes, to include development & implementation of such plans, goals and metrics

  • Demonstrable track record of creating innovative/breakthrough strategies/opportunities in the pharmaceutical/biotechnology or related industry

Knowledge

  • In-depth knowledge of the managed care environment and organized customers

  • Strong grasp/understanding of the pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry, Genentech's overall business model, and the surrounding marketplace

  • Knowledge/understanding of health economics, pricing and healthcare reimbursement

  • Knowledge of the current legal and regulatory landscape pertinent to the pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry

Skills/Abilities

  • Proven track record for consistently meeting or exceeding goals and objectives

  • Has a demonstrable track record in strategic planning in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology or related industry

  • Strong communication & presentation skills: exhibits professional maturity, confidence and competence. Knows how to summarize and communicate the key points and business case for others to effectively and expeditiously make important business decisions

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities and skills

  • Strong financial & business acumen: can effectively analyze, model and track quantitative and qualitative business data and metrics and extrapolate meaning from such

  • Business travel, by air or car, is occasionally required for internal and external business meetings
