Responsibilities

Job Summary

The training/certification requirement set forth in this addendum applies to registered nurses assigned to the Surgical Admit Discharge Unit (SADU). This position is responsible for providing Perioperative nursing care of all patient populations undergoing surgical procedures, to include ambulatory, acute and chronic patient care. Assumes responsibility and accountability for the direct and indirect implementation of the patient’s plan of care in the SADU.

Additional Essential Job Functions

  1. Performs a pre-operative assessment, identifies the pre-surgery patient at risk for complications and reports concerns as appropriate.

  2. Identifies the post-surgery patient at risk for complications and provides appropriate interventions.

  3. Performs a systematic and thorough physical assessment based upon knowledge of the post-surgery physiology.

Qualifications

Education/Work Experience

Experience in an inpatient medical/surgical or acute care setting preferred.

Strong critical thinking and physical assessment skills with ability to recognize medical conditions that should be reported.

Job Knowledge/Skills

Knowledge of pre and post-surgical care, including strong assessment skills and recognition of reportable concerns.

Familiarity with anesthesia medication effects and knowledge of pain and nausea management principles.

Recognition of respiratory distress, ability to provide support and intervention.

Additional Certification

Job Requirements:

Graduation from an accredited school of nursing, BSN preferred.

Minimum 6 months Previous RN experience required.

One year of related work experience in an acute care setting is preferred.

Current licensure as a Registered Nurse issued by the Washington State Board of Nursing.

Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS certification..

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)

Certified Ambulatory Peranesthesia Nurse (CAPA) preferred.
