POSITION DESCRIPTION The Gelcoat Technician positions involve the execution of various manufacturing processes such as composite fabrication, gelcoat spraying, infusion, and repair. Gelcoat Technicians at all levels are required to follow directions carefully, have basic mechanical knowledge, manual dexterity, good eyesight and the ability to perform repetitive tasks. The following essential job functions are performed as a Gelcoat Technician: *Perform gelcoat spraying techniques, application, and procedures. *Performing fiberglass wetlays behind gelcoated surfaces. *Performing dry fiber layups and prepping for infusions. *Masking in mold prior to gelcoat application. *Prep fiberglass, resins, and damaged areas for repair. *Shape and smooth edges to match contour properly. *Mix gel coat catalyst and spray repaired surfaces. *Reads, interprets, and follows pass downs, work orders, isometric drawings, blueprints, work instructions and other technical and non-technical documents. *Receives and carries out directions from designated supervisors. *Participates in training, safety, and quality programs. *Keeps work orders stamped, dated and organized. *Performs tabbing operations to work order specifications. *General sanding and finish work using grinders and sandpaper as needed. *Identifies and obtains equipment, tools and materials needed to properly perform job function. *Follows Janicki Industries Rules and Safety Practices and keep work areas clean and organized. *Follows 5S, AS9100 and Nadcap standards and practices throughout all work performed. *Maintains the work area and equipment in a clean and orderly, FOD free condition. *Packages and crates parts for shipment, including shrink wrapping. *Has knowledge of and ability to use common hand tools for assembly components per verbal, written, and drawing requirements. *Sets up scaffolding and safety barriers under direction. *Must work well under pressure, meeting and completing multiple deadlines. *Must be at work on time and maintain good attendance. This is a condition of employment and is an essential function of the job. *Performs other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS Due to our ITAR and EAR regulations, applicants must be a US Citizen or of Legal Permanent Resident Status as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b (a)(3). EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE *A two-year technical certificate or bachelor’s degree in a directly related field may be substituted for experience. Minimum requirement for all positions is a high school diploma or GED. *Prior experience in composite or fiberglass fabrication and repair is preferred. *Must have the ability to read, understand and follow work orders, written procedures, blueprints, drawings, and other technical documents. *Must have effective verbal and written communication skills in the English language. MATERIAL AND EQUIPMENT USED General hand and power tools. WORKING CONDITIONS Must be able to sit, stand, or crouch down for extended periods. Must be able to climb ladders and work on platforms. Exposed to noise, dust, dirt, and paint fumes. Must be able to work under hot and cold conditions. Personal protective equipment (PPE), safety glasses and respirator will be required.
