PayPal Consumer Web Platform Engineering Team is looking for strong engineering leader. We’re looking for strong JavaScript skills and solid real-world experience. The entire web stack is being revisited, so we’re seeking candidates with a strong (node.js) server background as well as those with more front-end experience. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in hiring, building and retaining top web talent, establishing scalable and sustainable architecture, collaborate on the strategy and the roadmap by working closely with the product, design and PMO organizations, besides web front end and back end technical prowess and demonstrated experience building large-scale web based software applications.

Previous work on a tools or platform team would be helpful, but certainly isn’t required. Should be familiar with the latest tools & practices popular in the community. The candidate should have great communication skills and ideally past experience working with a distributed team. Experience managing or contributing to open-source projects would come in handy.

Job Requirements:

  • Managing a rapidly evolving technology stack on a diverse set of platforms ranging from JS, HTML/CSS, Express.js, React.js, Redux, backbone.js, ,Java, Rest services, React/Node.

  • Facilitating and driving key technology decisions with senior technology stakeholders;

  • Attracting, retaining and building top notch back end engineering talent;

  • Be a mentor, technical leader and thought leader for a talented team of both front end and back end engineers, challenging them and helping them grow;

  • Partnering with Product and technology stakeholders to balance aggressive roadmap against engineering principles;

  • Building a culture of learning and sharing technology insights across the technology teams;

  • Driving consistent practices in hiring, training and development across the technology organization;

  • Bring innovation to the table that helps in improving the resiliency of products you are responsible for, sell your ideas and be part of the change;

  • Looking for continuous improvement in productivity and quality;

  • Tracking business impact of features on a regular basis, and rely on performance data to make informed decisions about possible changes or improvements;

  • Deep collaboration with cross functional engineering and product teams to evolve the reporting platform;

Qualifications:

  • Experience in designing, implementing and maintaining high performance, high availability (24x7), large-scale web based software applications/platforms;Excellent communication skills and ability to grasp and convey complex product requirements or technical concepts;

  • Ability to work in a fast paced, agile development environment;

  • Ability to partner with business units, product management, project management and cross-functional teams to deliver business results with agility and quality;

  • Experience building and managing highly effective engineering teams, conducting performance reviews, making compensation decisions and recruiting talent;

  • Excellent time management skills and ability to work on concurrent assignments with different priorities;

  • Proven results oriented person with focus on customer experience and delivering quality products;

  • 7+ years of experience managing and growing engineering teams (10+) that are responsible for large scale, high volume websites;

  • Solid knowledge of algorithms and design patterns;

  • Solid knowledge of JavaScript/Node/React, web services (REST/JSON),;

  • Strong Agile skills and proven track record for product delivery;

  • Entrepreneurial drive, demonstrated ability to achieve stretch goals in an innovative and fast paced environment;

  • Demonstrated development team building and people management skills;

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;

  • Flexibility and an ability to work in a matrixed and dynamic environment;

  • Ability to represent PayPal in the industry via speaking engagements;

  • BS/MS in Computer Science with 10+ years of working experience.
