Description:

Experience in accessioning samples & pulling reports for lab using computer LIS system, Sunquest Epic & CoPath, or good PC skills. Experience in pulling patient histories/info from EMR using Epic preferably. Admin work experience including filing, placing purchasing, scanning patient reports, restocking lab supplies, recording lab equip temp, cleaning lab equip, able to communicate w/clinicians.

Provides back-up assistance in specimen processing including ordering tests in the LIS, printing patient reports, and helping to organize the specimen workflow through the laboratory.

Performs administrative, clerical and support duties in the Medical Genomics section (Molecular Diagnostics and /or cytogenetics section) of the Clinical Laboratories and assists the section with these duties as time permits.

Required Qualifications

-Graduation from college with coursework in biological sciences, or two years of college with some coursework in natural, physical, or social sciences or equivalent combination of education and experience.

-One to two years experience working in a laboratory or other clinical environment.

-Demonstrated knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position.

-Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with physicians, requesting departments, and other staff including ability to clearly explain complex medical information in both verbal and written form.

-Ability to work well under pressure and pay close attention to details.

-Proficient with PC, Windows, Word, Excel, etc.

-The flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

-Possesses previous experience in a molecular clinical lab setting, and knowledge of basic medical terminology.

-Demonstrated ability to accession internal and outside patient samples in both SunQuest and CoPath LIS systems.

-Possesses experience maintaining clinical lab equipment (i.e. Centrifuges, Water Baths and Incubators).

-Demonstrated knowledge and experience with scanning patient requisitions and reports using the MetaViewer program and Epson scanners.

-Possesses previous experience ordering supplies using McKesson Supply Chain Management (PMM).

-Demonstrated ability to transcribe patient information in custom Access databases. Previous knowledge of and experience in a clinical lab setting, and medical terminology preferred.
