Learn It Systems Leave of Absence Administrator in San Diego, California

The Leave of Absence Coordinator will assist in the management of leave of absence (short-term disability, long-term disability, parental leave, family medical leave, COVID leave, and state paid leave and disability) for employees. This role will process and provide timely notification and communication to employees and managers regarding leaves of absences. The individual will maintain records and provide consultative advice to employees and managers to ensure effective use of leave benefit. A requirement is to continually educate managers and employees on types of leaves and policy/procedure to follow as well as completing system updates and analyzing report data, and to continually seek ways to leverage leave benefits to engage and retain our employees.

Remote Position

  • Research and respond to employees promptly, knowledgeably and in a consultative manner.

  • Liaison with, HR business partners, WorkComp, benefits, and other key stakeholders on complex or escalated leave issues. Work collaboratively to continuously improve procedures and processes with internal and external resources.

  • Work with leave vendor, to identify issues and errors within leave process or on specific leaves and/or claims. Hold all vendors accountable to established SLAs.

  • Oversee adherence to leave programs including short-term disability, long-term disability, family medical leave, parental leave and individual state disability and paid leave programs. Work with Benefits, HRIS teams to develop integrated processes and service for a seamless employee experience.

  • Develop and revise employee communications, pull and evaluate data to determine trends and provide suggestions for improvements in process that will engage and retain staff, and provide insights that allow managers to more effectively manage workforce planning.

  • Work on special projects related to implementing new providers, plans or making changes for regulatory compliance

  • Bachelor’s degree preferably in business, accounting, finance, human resource

  • A minimum of 2-3 years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience in HR or Benefits Related Function. Leave management experience required.

  • Leave of Absence Knowledge - General understanding of employee benefits as they relate to leaves of absence, including short/long term disability, COBRA, state disability pay, ADA, FMLA, etc. Knowledge of leave requirements. Experience in ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

  • US Leave Regulations and Laws - Monitors federal and state benefits laws and regulations to ensure company compliance. Keeps abreast of all relevant laws and emerging federal, state and local regulations.


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is often required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or operate computers, objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Position Location: Remote/Will manage calls until 6pm Pacific Time.
