Laboratory Technician - Salt Lake City, UT

We have an opening for a Laboratory technician (sample preparation) to work with one of our top clients in Salt Lake City, UT.

Summary: Prepare samples for use in final analysis within the laboratory, analyze the samples using proper lab techniques and to maintain the cleanliness of the lab and sampling systems by performing the following duties.

Shift/Schedule: This is a 3 month contract with possible extension, $15.00/hr

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Sample Preparation (clean, roll, and XRF)

  • Weighs samples for instrumental analysis

  • Weighs and prepares samples for fire assay

  • Adequate understanding of Laboratory Information System (LIMS)

  • Organizes all precious metal present to help prepare the assay lab for inventory listing.

  • Ensures the prills weighed back are taken to the Metal Control Vault at the end of each day.

  • Follows all EH&S procedures for proper handling, labelling, and disposal of chemicals

  • Housekeeping to be done on a daily basis in work area

  • Maintains a safe and clean work place

  • Performs various other duties as assigned

  • Assists with the training of new lab technicians.

  • Does routine analysis on the ED-XRF.

  • Determines fluxes for fire assay and analyses of routine sweeps samples.

  • Assists in performing PM and troubleshooting of fire assay furnace and analytical instruments.

  • Able to detect problems with XRF and work with lab management to correct problems.

  • Able to recognize proper correlation between CFAS and XRF data.

  • Titrates silver samples to determine silver content.

  • Assists in maintaining the Lab’s inventory by managing sample retention and standard storage.

  • Able to accurately check customer samples for quality and communicate with the melt department concerning samples in question.

  • Operates lab software at a high level and is capable of entering data into Universe as directed.

Job Requirements:

  • Minimum HS diploma or equivalent.

  • 1 to 3 months of related experience and or training; or equivalent combination of education and training.

  • Aptitude for basic math concepts and report preparation
