A Design Engineer is responsible for design, research, analysis, engineering documentation and process improvement for proposals, new product development and production support. The Design Engineering activity would be focused on composite or composite/metallic designs.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • A Design Engineer performs engineering design, analysis, and testing based on customer, industry, standard processes, and internal specifications. This includes performing thermal and structural analyses of metallic or composite designs utilizing ANSYS or other analysis methods, creating basic drawings, conducting or oversee testing, and assisting in the development and analysis of projects from concept to detail designs.

  • This Design Engineer position will need to become familiar with all Design Engineering standards and procedures, development programs and platforms.

  • The Design Engineer will support programs with introduction of composite specific system analysis with developed or to be developed in house software, ANSYS/Abaqus and potentially other publicly available software.

  • The successful candidate will report directly to the New Product Introduction Manager (Engineering Manager) and collaborate with the Chief Engineer, Principle Engineer, product definition group, production support group, Quality Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering.

Basic Qualifications:.

  • Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of relevant experience OR

  • Advance degree and 3 years of relevant experience OR

  • In absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience is required

  • Experience with metallic and/or composite material characterization

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters Degree in Mechanical or Aero Engineering or 10+ years of industry experience

  • Experience with metallic and/or composite material characterization, i.e. PEEK, PAEK, epoxy, carbon fiber, fiberglass

  • Proficient in ANSYS, Abaqus or other structural FEA

  • Excel workbook analysis

  • Matlab

  • MIL-STD-810 and RTCA DO-160 for verification and validation

  • MIL-HDBK-17 ( familiarization with mechanical property data for current and emerging composite materials

  • Familiar with thermoplastic and thermoset manufacturing techniques, including but not limited to material and batch control of composite material, manufacturing option, curing, autoclave, layup definition, industry fiber options, industry resign options.

  • Familiarization with composite material failure mode analysis, composite quality controls and inspection methods

  • Able to read Blueprints and drawings

  • GD&T

  • Inspection Instrumentation

  • Gage repeatability and reproducibility
