Are you passionate about large-scale software engineering problems that require a problem-solving blend of distributed parallel computing, automated refactoring, data modeling, and graph theory? The Windows Build’s Algorithmic Layering, Engineering Graph, and Optimizations (Allegro) team might be the one you’re looking for! We focus on leveraging automated refactoring techniques backed by a powerful graph database system to make sweeping cross-cutting changes to the Windows Operating Systems and how they are designed, layered, and built.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

As a software engineer on the Allegro team, you will be empowered to address several high-impact business priorities using every conceivable trick in the book. Some days you may refactor parts of a dynamic work scheduler’s execution graph while on other days you may code a parallel C# parser to read multi-gigabyte log files into a graph database system. Business challenges include:

  • Layering the Windows Operating Systems to enable parts of the system to enjoy up to 10x faster build times.

  • Enabling end-to-end validation of code changes without rebuilding the entire OS.

  • Accelerate value delivery from developers to Windows Insiders via payload insights and triangulation technologies.

  • Design and code automated refactoring tools that accelerate developer productivity.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a Computer Science or related technical/engineering discipline.

  • 4+ years of software engineering experience.

  • 2+ years of experience with C, C++, C#, Java, or other high-level language.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with large-scale engineering systems, scientific computing, and/or distributed computing.

  • Experience with Operating Systems, Architecture, and Composition.

  • OOP, data object modeling, graph theory, static analysis techniques.

  • Strong problem solving, testing and debugging skills.

  • Good communication and cross-group collaboration skills.

  • Ability to work both independently and collectively in a fun team environment.

  • High capacity to learn and adapt to new technologies and engineering processes quickly.

  • A passion for improving and designing engineering practices and for Engineering Excellence which delight customers.

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements might be required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to, the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check : This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
