As a part of Microsoft Experience and Devices Division, we are the Microsoft Office Search, Knowledge and Intelligence (SKI) Team, sitting at the intersection between experience, intelligence, data and software services. We are building products touching hundreds of millions of users daily, generating billions of hours of usage and tens of millions of documents monthly across all types of devices.

Our team is responsible for energizing the next generation of Office productivity experiences with the power of aggregated big data, artificial intelligence and large-scale cloud computing. On top of that, we are evolving Office experience toward knowledge and intelligence aided task completion, and voice enabled intent fulfillment.

Our goal is to delight our users by boosting their productivity and improving the quality of their creation. Our core drivers are large scale machine learning, including DNN and RNN based technologies, along with analyzing, inferring and experimenting with big data. Your responsibilities would include: driving intelligence experience projects through their entire life-cycle from ideation through implementation, experimentation and finally to world-wide availability. Our team also closely collaborates with Microsoft Azure, AI and Research on many joint innovations.

Your team will design, build, and operate the backend services and infrastructure that powers the overall SKI team’s search experience. These services are internet scale, high throughput, high reliability, and low latency services, and serve as the backbone of our value offering. Working in an agile and collaborative environment, you will collaborate with both internal partners as well as external partners to deliver rich, relevant, and reliable results to the clients.

You will be responsible for the long term health of your team, hiring and retaining top talent, creating a healthy environment where everyone can do their best work, and you will provide hands on technical leadership as needed, with architecture, design, code reviews, development, quality assurance and live site.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years’ experience in software engineering, algorithm or data science inclusive of technical leadership experience

  • 5+ years' programming experiences in various languages such as Python, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript/TypeScript

  • 5+ years' experience in machine learning, data mining, information retrieval, natural language processing, graph computation or large-scale distributed computation

  • Experience delivering large cross group projects in collaboration with multiple partner teams

  • Experiences in areas of online services such as search, online advertisement, recommendation systems, HTML5 development, Azure, AWS or other main cloud services, are strong pluses

  • Ability to effectively communicate technical subjects at varying levels of technical detail

  • Ability to break down complex problems into simple, incremental deliverables

  • Customer/End results/Metrics driven in design and development.

  • Ability in self-learning, entering new domain, managing through uncertainty in an innovative team environment

  • A passion for leading diverse, inclusive engineering organization

  • A passion for solving complex problems and for delivering quality results through others
