Position Summary:

Under direct supervision the incumbent assist in the overall food preparation of the on-site preparation facility, in accordance with all Program requirements. The incumbent is also responsible for dishwashing and for ensuring that the kitchen, freezer, refrigerators and other equipment in maintained in sanitary and safe manner. The position reports to the Supervisor Cook.

Core Duties:

  • Ensures attractive presentation of all foods served

  • Ensures appropriate packing of all food for all Dining Centers in accordance with portion control guidelines

  • Conducts proper handling of all food items according to food service sanitation guidelines

  • Cleans the food service area, including floors and walls when necessary, and kitchen equipment in a sanitary manner

  • Keeps freezer and refrigerator in an orderly manner

  • Conducts temperature tests of all food items

  • Practices the highest standards of kitchen safety and food sanitation

  • Wears appropriate attire according to sanitation guidelines

  • Operates electrical equipment according to safety regulations

  • Washes all dishes, trays, pots, pans, and meal transporters, etc

  • Packs home delivered meals accurately in meal transporters according to route order

  • Daily cleans dishwashing room, cleans dishwashing machine in a sanitary manner

  • Daily empties garbage in kitchen and dish room

  • Cleans the dishwashing area including floors and walls when necessary, in a sanitary manner

  • Performs other related duties as requested or assigned in a professional manner

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma (or equivalent) required

  • California Food Handlers Card required

  • Experience in quantity food service operations required

  • Experience in the operation and care of all food service equipment required

  • Knowledge of proper preparation and food handling methods, kitchen safety and sanitation required

  • Training in quantity food preparation from HACCP recipes, food service sanitation, storage and portion control and kitchen equipment usage and cleaning required

  • Ability to read, write and follow oral and written instructions required
